Fish Broth , called "Broff" in Trinidad and Tobago, is one of those Trinbagonian dishes that is a favourite at any lime (a gathering), especially where alcohol is involved. This is a popular soup among men and it is typically made after a night of drinking. My brother makes a mean Broff and I figured I had to share this recipe with my KZbin family.
Here's what you'll need:
2 pounds of Red Snapper, washed with limes (OR any fish of your preference)
2 cups of pumpkin, cubed
1/2 cup of green seasoning
1/4 cup of celery leaves, chopped
1/4 cup of scallion/green onion (called chive in Trinbago), chopped
1/4 cup of shadon beni/bandhania,/culantro/recao, chopped
1/2 cup of chinese celery leaves and stalks, chopped
2 hot peppers (either whole or sliced)
8-10 pimento peppers
1 onion, diced
8-10 young ochroes or okras
1 large carrot, sliced
1 packet of Grace Fish Tea Soup OR Maggi Vegetable Soup Mix
Some macaroni pasta (OR your preference)
2 large potatoes, cut into big chunks
3-5 green figs/bananas (cooking bananas), cut into halves
1 tablespoon oil
2 tablespoons ketchup
1-2 tablespoons salt (to your preference)
1 tablespoon of golden ray butter (this is a bit salty so add this before adding extra salt)
black pepper
