@Fishaholic2 жыл бұрын
Hi, it works exactly the same way as a store bought canister filter. After building the filter, fill it with water and turn ON the pump. Water from the filter will enter the aquarium through the pump and will be replaced by the water entering from aquarium

Can u tell me the proportion for fresh water tank. If I have 20litres tank then what should be the jar capacity use for diy in litres ???

Hey mate, there is no such proportion, any extra volume will add to the capacity of the aquarium. You could even a sponge filter in the tank and it will do filtration. By adding a separate canister filter will boost the capacity and you can add extra fish in the tank. Hope it make sense.

This design is awesome, I tried making it today and tested it out, but i found there isn't much water coming in from the tank into the food container, and the water level in the food container actually goes down (in contrast to yours, where the water level remains the same). I think the reason might be because I didn't apply sealant where the wire comes out, so it isn't fully airtight. Could that be the problem?

I'm confused how is the water coming out of the filter if you didn't connect to pump. Seems like you have water going out and in from the same source. I'm I right?
@Fishaholic2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dae, once filter is filled with water and there isn't much air in the inlet/outlet then water is sucked in the filter automatically due to the void created by the pump which is pumping water out through outlet. Works exactly same as a store bought canister filter.

I get the outlet is with the pump, how is the inlet? Gravity?

Thats correct Reza, it works similar to store bought canister filter. You could always place a pump inside the tank and connect it to the inlet, won't require a pump inside canister in that case.

Thanks mate. Just a question- when power goes off, would the water flowing to the canister stop? And how , kindly explain

...next time, WASH all items BEFORE placing them in the filter. That way the residue will not be ejected into the water like a white cloud of smoke. That's Aquarium pump 101.

What happens when there is a power outage? Will the filter not overflow?
@Fishaholic4 жыл бұрын
It's an air lock container so during power outage there will be no overflow. It will simply stop working same as a canister filter. I hope it answers your question Muhammad. Appreciate watching and have a good day

Can we do with out a motor with mouth suction method????
@Fishaholic4 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, it won't work without a motor. Suction with mouth will start the flow but motor will be required to continue the flow 24/7. Appreciate your time mate and have a good day.

Omg fishaholic, I am literally gonna make this today (highly optimistic ...soon!)! Is there anything I need to know about placement when it's all done? It seems so scary to put it under the tank, right?
@Fishaholic3 жыл бұрын
Hi Richard, placing the filter next to aquarium would be an ideal spot. After its fully tested, I would suggest placing it behind aquarium. Inlet on one end of tank and outlet on the opposite tank will ensure efficient water filtration and circulation.

Thanks Richard, pick a good quality air tight container and seal all the holes properly and you won't have any issues.

Help me . When i switch off the filter but motor continue suck the water How to avoid it
@Fishaholic4 жыл бұрын
Hi Srikant, how long does it flow after switching off the power. It should stop working as the filter won't be able to push water back to the tank.
@Wandering_Tales_4 жыл бұрын
It is continuesly suck the water after the switch off the power what can i do
@Fishaholic4 жыл бұрын
Srikant nayak after taking IN the water from tank, does it pushes it back to the tank? Or is it during maintenance when you open the filter and it just over flow.
@Wandering_Tales_4 жыл бұрын
No its overflow
@Fishaholic4 жыл бұрын
Srikant nayak Lift the filter bit higher when you do maintenance so water doesn't flow to the filter due to gravity. Or attach a stop valve to the inlet so you could turn it off before turning off the power. I hope it helps

Is the reason that you need to fill the container full of water before you started it is because you are using a submersible pump?
@Fishaholic2 жыл бұрын
Thats correct, container needs water for the pump to start functioning. Concept is same as using a store bought canister filter. Thank you

is 6mm vinyl tubing a viable alternative for this build?
@Fishaholic3 жыл бұрын
It should work Niel, as the flow rate of pump would be low anyway for a small tank.

Is this kind of DIY fliter will work to a 2.5 gallons aquarium? It will not overflow???
@Fishaholic2 жыл бұрын
Mine is 5.2 gallon and have had no issues at all. Filter will simply stop working if power is disconnected

I love it. I was going to use a plastic soda bottle with filter media but this is way better.Could the inlet and outlet be on different sides of the tank? Gonna steal this idea. Thanks
@Fishaholic3 жыл бұрын
Hi William, inlet and outlet should be ideally at the opposite end. Since it is a small tank so it won't make much difference as 200lph filter for 20l tank would be more than enough filtration.
