FISHBONE DIAGRAM is also known as Cause-Effect diagram because of its shape. It is also named ISHIKAWA DIAGRAM in the name of Prof. KAORU ISHIKAWA. CAUSE AND EFFECT DIAGRAM is a very effective QC tool in finding the possible causes responsible for a problem and hence the root cause.

Thank u for such explanation..but I have one doubt...u told tht there are 5M and 1E in main causes but in example why u hv explained only 4 ?

That's good. You have paid full attention to learn cause and effect diagram. 5M; Man, Method, Machine, Material, Money. You can consider the main cause according to the problem you are trying to solve. Man; Such as operator, trainer, teacher, student. Similarly, for Machine it may be typewriter, computer, manufacturing machine etc. How you get it!

You may consider the related categories of man, method, machine, material, measurement or money, and environment, such as if the problem is related with the production then under the category of man will be the operator and so operator fatigue, operator interest, operator work habits etc.
