Fishez Presents - Harvesting & Feeding Live Vinegar Eels to Fish Fry

Demonstration of harvesting Vinegar Eels for feeding live food to tropical fish fry. Vinegar Eels (Turbatrix aceti) are not actually eels but are free-living nematodes that feed on microbial culture. They are easily cultured at home and make a simple and clean way to always have plenty of live fry food on hand. Demonstrated here is feeding about 35 Odessa fry in a 5G tank.

Are there benefits of feeding fry vinegar eels instead of baby brine shrimp? I know the simplicity of keeping vinegar eels is what has drawn me to them, but I was looking for other reasons people use them other than that. I have not had an issue raising them with non-organic apple cider vinegar so I think that may be optional.

These "eels" (nematodes) are supposedly not as nutritious as the baby brine shrimp, but I cannot comment on that with assurance. Vinegar eels are often fed to smaller fry initially when the fry are not yet ready for BBS. So the eels can be used at first and then later, if BBS are available, one can feed both. It makes more sense to me to feed a variety of foods when possible as opposed to only one type. I agree with you on the non-organic apple cider vinegar. I don't believe that's a major factor, but the organic is readily available around here. Thanks < Fishez

@@FishEZ Thanks for the reply. My goal is to have a good supply of Vinegar eels and SCUDS on hand for fry. I dont mind dedicating a tank to SCUDS.
