Fishin' The Withlacoochee River 5/11/2018

Headed to the Withlacoochee River in Citrus County, Florida 2 try some Freshwater Fishin'.Accessed the River by way of the Leslie Canal off Lands End Road. Beautiful River & today I never saw a boat!! Managed 2 Hook a Bass, Bowfin & 4 Gars...never getting any 2 the boat!! Ran across a couple of Gators on the way back to the Ramp. Quiet Day on the River...

Matt Leach....Thanks!! 41 out of Brooksville 2 the lite @ Floral city..Right going towards Bushnell about 3 miles on the Left you'll sea the Ramp sign at Lands End Road...left and follow the Road...Ramp is @ the Canal Lock!! I've run the entire River from Nobelton to the Gulf in different segments....Glad U could drop by...

Indian River Pescador....Thanks!! Beautiful & Quiet...the only sounds are from the Wildlife!! I saw a lot of Minnows & Fish splashin'. I found some Finns but my Hookup percentage with Weedless Softies is poor!! But I love 2 throw into cover & pads so that might never change...but about a year ago I got back into the Fresh as a change of Pace and being able to run in the skinny in the nearby lakes & rivers in Central Florida with the intent for more water Xploring'!! Glad U could stop by.....

Had never dropped in on the ramp @ the Orange State Canal and have knot done much fishing on that part of the River. timothy roden....Thanks!! The River has a lot of access points and runs through 4 counties and it runs all the way to the Gulf!! You might start at Silver Lake near I-75 off highway 50 on the east side...I have caught Bass and Gills from there...some on the troll....Also know the river can get real low and the bottom can be pretty nasty with boulders....If you want more info shoot me an e-mail....Sea Ya!!

A stand up tiller is the only way 2 Navigate this Area because of the Instantaneous Resonse during Navigation...Someone using a Wheel cannot do what I do...& quite frankly it's a Thrill!! Catchin' is pretty good but only because the entire Refuge is Xtremely hazardous 2 navigation!! Glad U could reel over....

Travel depends on how much water is flowing & how high the water is!! When I did this video the river was reel low & there are places that even my skinny boat might have difficulty!! There are plenty of spots to camp on the river & there shouldn't be any shallow spots that would require dragging the boat over. I have traveled the river from Silver Lake to the Gulf mostly with decent water & in different stages....Got a float plan....I might able to help!!

The dam has 2 ramps East & West...one into the lake & one that starts in the old river & empties into the barge canal where they blocked the river....The river is fed by a canal now. But you can launch at Inglis & continue from there down the river to Yankeetown....Good luck with the adventure!!

cover is good in places with no cover. Then u know the fish is schooled up there. When the entire bank is cover its like having no cover at all : )

i_fish....Thanks!! Tossing Plastic @ Pads & Hyacinths is tough on hooksets!! The fish have 2 get 2 an open spot to hit the Softie.. You just keep Flippin' eventually you find some Finns.....Glad you take a Boat ride....

My buddy lives out in ridge Manor in a stitllt house they lock the floodgate when hurricane comes and flood all the PO folk out upriver....he's got 12 step house highest we seen it was at the 5th step

tird108....Thanks!! When storms like Hermine in 2016 sit over Central Florida & the Green Swamp Basin if your home isn't stilted well above ground level you're in for a lot of misery for 3 to 5 months & that's devastating to have your life disrupted in such a manor!!

Peter Wood-Jenkins....Thanks!! Whether it's from a Yak or power boat the river is a great place to Xplore....I've run all of the river from the Green Swamp to the Gulf of Mexico in stages. The inference to the dozens of tree species...the river meanders & is only one of a few rivers that actually flows north...The additional flora & fauna....The river also has a designation as a pristine & outstanding waterway by the State of Florida...it also flows through 7 Florida Counties before reaching the Gulf of Mexico....Hope this helps!!

dzoldnuts....Thanks!! Didn't know that back then. I've run the River from Silver Lake all the way to the Dam @ Rousseau & then to the Gulf from the Dam doing so in 6 stages!! I went to the small ramp off SR 48 from Floral City to the Lands End Rd then to the Leslie Canal to the River. There is the Orange State Canal but the County doesn't seem to maintain it & it's full of Timber!! There use to be a an active ramp with fuel & a small general store @ Lands End which is about 4 miles West of the WynnHaven Camp & ramp on SR 48 going towards I-75...That has been closed for years....use to run the section from Nobleton to Lands End & back all the time when I lived in Brooksville...

Fats Robs Fishing....Thanks!! There is very little Traffic on the River even on the Weekend!! 2 reely sea a chunk of this area you're better off using a second vehicle @ your out location. Over the Years I've travel'd well over 50 miles in Stages all the way to the Gulf. I've just gotten back into fishin' the Fresh during the last year & there are hundreds of thousands of acres of rivers & lakes available within 3 hours driving time & I've found out over the years sometimes it's just fishin' but it's the Xploration of something new & completely different that gets me Crank'd!! RE: "Land's End" - did you mean Trails End in Floral City (Citrus County)? "Trails End" is a road & a great RV park right on the river. I live right near there and stayed with my son and his family in his RV there when they visited. The RV park is the best I've seen, with wild deer and turkeys running around - nice boat ramp.

Lands End road runs off SR48 Floral City to Bushnell and crosses the Leslie Canal that has a boat ramp and runs to the Withlacoochee River....Going north 1/2 mile when entering the river is trails end on the west side of the river....Use to have a little general store.....Boat ramp, fuel and dockage on the River.....It has been shut down for years!!😎

No Fish Samiches on this trip. After TS Hermine with all the Flooding & the use of Herbicides the River & Lake Rousseau had a huge fish kill...Neither the River or the Lake have yet to recover!! I've run my Skinny water boat from Silver Lake all the way to the Gulf on the Withlacoochee River in different stages....Quite a stunning River Ride!!

D. Nasty Fishing....Thanks!! There's over 50 miles of the River that I've run in segments over the years. Had never fished this section or used this ramp...so time 4 something new. Had 2 move down river about a mile 2 get out of the Hydrilla then all I did was fish both sides from the center of the River. I just got back fishin' the Fresh about a year ago so I'm Xploring & Fishing all available lakes. The Withlacoocheee is the only River close by....Hey maybe I'll actually catch a few Finns along the way....Glad you could drop by....

Yes its the whole river due to the run off during the rainy season then took the hurricane hit... Even though they dont want to admit it all the spraying

I was beginning 2 believe my ability 2 find fish was in serious doubt...LOL but that could be the answer. I tried Silver Lake on I-75 a few months ago Trolling for Specks but only hung a few Gills. Also fished the South feeder canals over in Lake Hernando last Monday with a few chunks on Froggs & Craws....Yesterday it was the Chazz with some great catches & pulled hooksets on Snook & Reds...haven't posted yet....

Isn't it near US 19 across from Glen Lakes...I've eyeballed it on Earth & didn't know if you could walk into it from the main road....
