I agree. It really just depends on the angle that I have the GoPro set at that day. Little differences in the change of the angle of the camera make a big difference to how the video turns out. And there's no way to really "set" the angle and never have to worry about it again. It's something I have to adjust each time I go out there, and sometimes the angle is a bit better than others

In another life you could have been a birdwatcher. The enjoyment of the outdoors, the simple gear, the excitement of finding what species and subspecies show up in a particular place, admiring their colors... I'm more a birder than a fisherperson these days, but decades ago when I lived in the Eastern Sierra I did some traditional fly fishing. Looking back on it I was basically fishing like this: tiny creeks, 6"-12" fish, lots of fun catch-and-release. Watching your videos makes me want to give Tenkara a try. Thanks!

Great video, being a fisherman myself when younger...Your shows are stressful finding the right spots for fish...I had limited time when ever I did get to go so, like you I would get stressed to think I just drove 8 1/2 hours and came home the next day or 5 days later with 3 fish...with completely perfect weather...later my time became more limited so, I hired guides and and in BC. Keep the faith and remember Gods Speed..

I know you don't like to expose your exact location, but I'd sure like to know even the generic region of Colorado you're in for this reason; I'm a Colorado native and have been fishing the Poudre Canyon / Hwy 14 area from Ted's Place to Walden my entire life. I don't actually fish the Poudre River and stick to the smaller creeks and streams throughout the area. For the past few years, I've been fishing quite a bit between the Blue Lake trailhead and Gould, where a person could literally fish for a lifetime. The one thing that I have noticed in all my years of fishing here in Colorado, the trout are picky about what they eat. You started out using the very red or pink Idaho Killer Kebari that wasn’t catching many fish, and this doesn’t surprise me at all as it’s lacking any “bling” or “flash” that the Colorado trout are attracted to. When you switched to the purple bodied fly you did a little better, but I’m sure you were missing dozens of picky Colorado trout. I have sat and fished huge pools with dozens of fish and patiently tied on at least 20 different flies, and I watched fish swim up, take a long look, and then swim away and go back to their feeding spot. It didn’t matter what the possible hatch was at the time, or bugs in the water and air, the fish just didn’t seem to care about 99% of my flies, until I tied on our go-to Pheasant Tail Nymph with a shiny copper or brass wire wrapped body. This “bling” clearly attracts the Colorado trout regardless of the species, and at times seems to be the only fly they will eat on a regular basis. I fish with my kids, and between the four of us we have dozens of flies, and we always end up using the Pheasant Tail Nymph when the fish aren’t biting any other flies. I don’t know if this is more common in the areas of Colorado where we fish, or perhaps is true for the area you were in also. So if you wouldn’t mind sharing the general area of this video I’d love to know. Thanks for another fun video, stay safe and have fun.
@brian12048 ай бұрын
My experience in Colorado, years ago, was that the fish are generally highly pressured and so very picky. Less pressure, less picky.
@Steelertubeyou8 ай бұрын
Perhaps, but that's why I don't fish the Poudre Canyon as it's highly pressured as you say. My kids and I fish on the weekends and weekdays, and we've yet to see another fisherman on any of the creeks or streams we like to fish, and yet these trout are some of the pickiest eaters I've seen here in Colorado, whether it's the common Brook Trout, Rainbows or Cutthroats. @@brian1204

It wasn't the flies. I wasn't scaring up fish when I was wading through pools, etc. There just weren't a ton of fish in the creek. And sorry, but especially when there are identifiable landmarks (like the waterfall), I don't get into specific creek locations.
