Maybe it's not tradition in Japan to help the elderly, many old poor people could have been blessed by the fish you throw away. Just saying that maybe the creator blesses you with fish so that you can bless others? It IS a bigger blessing to give than to receive, you feel happier giving fish away than catching it!
