Fishing AT Abbotsbury, Chesil Beach - A hot August day and difficult conditions produced a few fish

I fish the Abbotsbury area of Chesil Beach on Tuesday 15th August. Fish tide up to high (7-30pm) and then back down to low (Past midnight)
I walked from the carpark (£8 for 24 hrs) towards West Bexington along Burton road for apex 500 m and fished in front of the 1st set of cottages
Using fresh rag and blow lug (From Reel fun fishing, Portishead) , frozen squid / bluey / mackerel / prawn and sandeel, it's tough going in the bright hot conditions
Smoothound, conger and pouting show up on a tough trip
A variety of bait rigs used - 1/0 - 3/0 pulley pennels, 3/0 upover rig, 2 hooked clipped (S2 - S4 hooks) and a Portsmouth loop rig (S2 - 4 hooks)
Baits being stripped , so used pop ups
4-6 oz grip leads were fine
Swell was approx 0.5m

well done for getting out Al, your supposed to hold the fish with outstretched arms toward the camera, that hound would have looked at least 2lb if you had of done so😂. at least your not king of the blanking sessions like i am at the moment.

It takes skill to winkle out the smaller specimens , that's what I tell myself. The day I catch something decent, the go pro will not work (probably) ! Thanks for watching

Hi mate, good video great skills, have you thought about using a fixed spool reel, say a 7000 sized surfblaster. It will easily allow you to give the cast a bit more welly and cover more potential feeding zones while you're fishing. Your bait presentation is good so can't be that. Tight lines 🎣🎣

Thanks for watching and for the advice - 45 yrs ago, I was a fixed spool 'man' - The good old Mitchell 387 , then seduced to the dark side as I got older .. may revert back as I head into my 60's !!

You are akin to a large number of “normal everyday anglers” akin to myself and brotherinlaw - fishing companion. We rejoice this year when we catch a dogfish! Nice video again 🙂 We were down the same day and walked a loooong way for not much better results, Mackerel and scad on pop ups and a solitary tub. We did however avoid the crowds so that was a plus. Good luck on your next trip, things will improve....

​​@fishingat I've seen lots of people struggling to get out of the water absolutely stupid. I have also seen what looked like a group experienced swimmers really struggling in the tide one time they had to go way out along the beach to get back in. Usually you get paddle boarding idiots that think it's a good idea to go along the beach really close in when people are feathering I like to call them the cyclists of the sea 😂 keep at it you will get the big ones soon
