I went on my second kayak fishing session this morning. The highlight was losing a squid as I was trying to net it. Lowlight was capsizing and losing 2 rods and a net. Lessons learned.

Great video Nev, had something similar happen yesterday morning, hooked a nice bream , then the hook came out, and came back with one of its eyes on the hook, felt a huge amount of guilt, but I've also caught fish missing a eye, so hopefully it lives, so keep your chin up champion, your doing a great thing teaching responsible fishing practices to people with catch and release fishing, and only taking what you need, great work champion,

Might be a good idea to not use trebles on those bigger jerkbaits, change to 2 singles, much less damage to the fish

Share the concern on hurting big flatties Have you considered re-rigging with inline hooks? I've changed a lot of mine over where it makes sense on the larger hard bodies. I find larger soft plastics like slapstick with large 5/0 EWG hooks seems to catch in the mouth most of the time.

Best I have used motor oil minnowz pearl but run 7 strand wire through body assist hooks bass straight to a number 9 stainless split ring fill with liquid steel. Best jack this week 628mm whiting over 350mm x 10 got a nice feed.worked better than a zx vibe.

I live in iluka and I think you should try the front side of goodwood it's pretty good for flathead and if you fish collis's wall you might get a jew if not middle wall off freeburn is awesome for about all species and if your lucky you might even get the odd snapper

Have fish gone for my lure floating on the top, you ask? Yes. Only twice. I was busy talking to someone and a fish swam from the deep up to my floating lure, took the bite but didn't get hooked. Second time, similar situation, went for the bite but didn't get hooked.

Nev do you have the 180 mirage drive? I recently got a PA14 and its got the original non-kickup mirage drive, bit of a nightmare trying to stay on a spot if there is any wind or current and I just ended up bashing into docks because I couldnt stop!! Its stupid expensive to upgrade to 180 so hoping you have some tricks for the non-180!!

Big jerk baits are doing well and cont growing in popularity for flathead. Is that lure a tide minnow? If not what is it? There are so many good jerk baits that aren't released in aust. When there is they disappear pretty quickly. Keep up the great vids 🤙 I'm so keen to get a yak...

Barbless is the way to go. Saves both the fish and you if you cop a lure in the finger or hand. I started squashing down all the barbs on my trebles about 20 years ago and never looked back! And no, it makes no difference to the landing rate compared to trebles with barbs. Nice work though as always with your video :)

Hey Nev do you Reacon That you could fish at my favourite spot in Harrington Park at the lake if you go opposite to the pier there is a secret lake where all the fish are if you do go can you please film it and here is the location it is at Harrington Park near the shops and a few tips the lake is freshwater and there is Carp, Australian Bass and Eels in the lake by the way I suggest no sinker there is a cage at the bottom that you get caught on and if you do it will you tell me and maybe I trie meet you there

@seranity3686 I think a lot of fishermen would prefer it that he didn't announce his spots. His videos get viewed by thousands of people and that sort of exposure isn't always the best thing for local spots and the best part of fishing is exploring, learning and adventuring! In saying that though, from memory if you subscribe to a certain tier on his Patreon platform he does give out certain locations. I could be wrong and apologies if I am. Also If that's the reason for an unsubscribe then I feel that is a bit rough considering the main reason for his channel is to educate and entertain, which I think he does amazingly.

He normally replies to comments so give him a bit of a break. Its fair enough to want a general location without being to specific eg Gippsland Lakes, Wilsons Prom, Philip Island etc. Its important as the techniques lures, target species and gear change depending on where you are.

Yes those bloody treble hooks. I will not have them on my boat. Dangerous to fish and fisher. I have no idea why you need NINE hooks on each lure. I only use ONE hook in the tail and I do OK......
