Fishing canoe modifications (better than a kayak?)

Just scored a 12 foot Old Town Katahdin kayak off the curb someone threw away! The inside has so crossbars or seats so I'm gonna turn it into a fishing kayak but canoe!!! This gave me some really good idea! Thanks for the post!! Tight lines!!

Nice canoe , seems to be a solo , one person model , if I were you and I can tell your are a family man and like to include them in your adventures , check around to see if you may have a friend or want add that maybe you can swap that canoe for a two person canoe , try not to drill holes and or do any revisions to the canoe you have so you don’t ruin its value , you need to get a bigger canoe with 2 maybe a center seat combo console for your son , look at the Old Town 146 I truly believe you should up size not only for comfort also for safety, good luck , tight lines

Anchors, depending on situation. For drifting creeks and small rivers get a piece of chain maybe 1 1/2 foot and tie to a rope to drag and slow you down. Get another piece to add for swifter current. Other wise two anchors. Either way, anchors on the ends of boat, not in the middle. Cut any boards your adding to fit inside and under the gunwhales, like the existing thwarts. Make one wide enough and located well for cutting bait and other tasks. Get another little cutting board for bait so you don't nasty the bolted on board. Look at actual outrigger canoes for how that's done. Make them nearly as long as the boat. Place connections out of the way of paddling.

I did the flagpole outriggers and had the same boat bumpers. It’s too heavy to adjust anything. I also drifted into the dock pylon on a really windy day trying to dock. It sheered the flag pole adjustable part clean off! I recommend trying the crab pot floats over the boat bumper. That’s what’s too heavy. I’m going in the direction of a PVC set up where there are two arms to the floats on each side. I actually made a “standing platform” that sits on PVC pipes above the gunnels. The outriggers did work!

G'day from Australia mate. I like your fitout version for your canoe.. I have a 15ft Coleman 2 man and my fitout is much different to yours however I do run a 54lb 26inch shaft electric on mine with a Lowrance sounder rod holders anchor etc...I am going to subscribe to your channel and watch your adventures...regards B.J.

Handy anchor rope I use is a retractable clothesline spring loaded or I think a retractable dog leash will work just as well. Thanks for your ideas. You can use old window weights as anchor, plus if they're left loose you can let them slide down as you need.

Well adding the trolling motor and battery I would say around $300. Pvc is cheap the floaters are cheap the seat was like $20 the crate was $20 with the rod holders. The extra rod holders were $30 for 4. And the trolling motor I got from a buddy with the battery.

I'm curious how much stability the outriggers add to the canoe? I have an old town canoe I have taken out on the lake with my son but it's a decent size lake and has some current to it. I don't want to dump the canoe with my son in the lake and I want to add some stability so I can stand up etc. I'm curious how well this does?

Calculating the angle change of the shadows with the season and time of upload I have calculated that it was not in fact a 2 second job to load the canoe, explain yourself.
