Fishing Costa Rica Beach Guanacaste

We are heading to Portrero in June and looking forward to doing some surf fishing. I think I will pack some reels and soft baits and just buy some cheap rods to use from Walmart in Liberia. Can't wait to have some Mackerel sashimi!

This is glorious, been searching for "hatteras fishing surf" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you ever come across - Wenayden Xenaylee Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my mate got excellent success with it.

bill piatek early morning you can expect rooster fish. Over the day needle fish, jacks fun stuff like that. Evening, BoHo is right, the pelicans will show you the way and chances are good for catching snook. At night in the waves with some cut up mackerel, stingrays and nurse sharks. Low tide use the rocks on the right side of Hermosa. There is a awesome fishing store in Coco 20min drive from Hermosa. Also if you want some fun over the day talk to the locals with a boat, they take you out fishing for an hour or three for 100 bucks. Enjoy beautiful CR! Tide lines!

Fish size in Costa Rica. You can't catch anything so small they won't cook it for you. Also, fishing from the beach I have hooked things that bent my hooks straight and got away. Pompano, snapper and snook are the main target fish, but you might catch a sixty pound rooster fish from the beach.

I just hired a charter out of Tamarindo. Got skunked. Got to eat some chips and salsa along with 4 beers for the cost of $1,400.00 dollars. A sandwich would have been nice!

After getting 3 charters in Tamarindo, Cozumel, and off of Dana Wharf L.A. in the last 2 1/2 years I have caught 1 barracuda in 1 trip and skunked on the other two. $3,000.00 dollars 1 unbeatable fish, chips , beer, another time no fish at all premade ceviche with tortilla chips and beer. The other other time it was a couple of bottles of water and some planters peanuts. No fish as well. I’m PRETTY SURE WHEN PEOPLE SAY THEY CATCH A FISH IN THE OCEAN THEY ARE ONLY SPREADING RUMORS ABOUT FISH ACTUALLY BEING IN THE OCEAN!! Maybe they come from Mars. All I know is I never go on vacation when there is good weather. They always tell me the week before that they were “slaying them(the different kinds of fish. I’m done with charters and fishing in general. 🤔 is it still fishing if you don’t actually catch a fish???

those are captain fish (little one not as big as the African variety) and a little jack (hippos) and you can catch much more from the beach like little barracuda, bonita, snook, ladyfish, rooster fish if you are lucky, ... Pura Vida Greg

Hi John You can you use a lot of lures inshore fishing in costa rica soft plastic lure works well the "shad" , bucktail jig, trumble hard lure, minnow lure , ... the only thing to keep in mind the size of the lure 3 inch is a good size not to long and heavy to cast far enough when it is windy the color white and red a must yellow and pink work well also Good luck Pura vida Greg

I never fish in Playa Hermosa, but you should try early in the morning or late in the afternoon, and look for the pelicans. It is a good indicator to follow the little fish. You should also try talk with the local fisher man, they use coils of wire, it is the local fishing technique ;) You should use little lures sinking, not much than 3 inches and use yellow, white and red are very good color. Don't forget soft lure, casting jigs, minnow lure sinking and if you can tremblers lure - heavy and little size for each one
