I’ve caught a golden eye at PK resort on granite hill lake northern Ontario. I worked there as a dock hand / guide in 2017. The owners Paul and Karine are extremely hospitable and wonderful people to be around! 1 of the most beautiful places on earth in my opinion. Cheers from Ottawa 🇨🇦 ps the fishing is incredible

What an awesome adventure! I watched it with my family and for the first time ever, my daughter and wife were talking about doing a fly-in trip. I tried to play it cool... next year's looking real good! Jay, I'd really like to ask you a quick rigging question, please. If you could rig your 185 over again, would you go for a 15' talon instead of the 12? Do you have a tilt bracket on your 15'?

We stopped by lake Pend Orielle for a camping trip and I fished throughout the day without catching a thing. As the sun was setting I started hearing splashing down on the lake shore. I went down to the lake and started casting a streamer and catching a fish almost every single cast. I had no idea what kind of fish I was working with, these crazy two toned olive things and it took me forever to actually ID the species. Turns out they were walleye. No golden walleye, but I'm not surprised such a thing exists because their color variation seems extreme.

Fun fact... This unique coloration is from the "tannins" off our far north trees - Specifically, Tamarack has a very strong tannin that can stain water almost black. Red Lake, Ontario has a handful of lakes that have "Golden (Yellow) Walleye" as well.

Re. Blue Walleye subject. Crossman and Scott’s excellent book “FRESHWATER FISHES OF CANADA” discusses the subject of Blue walleye. You caught a blue coloured walleye, however the species of True Blue Walleye is long ago extinct. This subject has been the basis of many an evening of enthusiastic debate at fish camps, and hopefully will be for many years.

The darker the water the darker the colors on the fish. I have caught lg mouth with yellow bellies and so dark you can't see the stripe. Bluegill with blood red chins and they look black in the sides. Crappie that are black and gold/bronze. All in very dark water.
@Jigger2361Ай бұрын
...and for old school Ontarians it's "pickerel" ... raised on the P word, the W word being sooo American (and yeah, I get the whole Grass Pickerel, Chain Pickerel thing but I am sticking full blown Hoser colloquialism on it)
