I remember driving over the original Hornibrook Bridge when I was a boy in the 1970s and 80s. My great grandmother lived at Scarborough.

Yeah, it’s an awesome spot. I actually used to do the same to visit my Grandmother in Scarborough in the early 2000’s. Good memories here as a kid. Have a great weekend mate!

Tightn drag just a touch,not much more from what u have it set at. Play the fish without reeling in. Reel in when drag stops running & fish calms down. He might run again so let him & repeat wind in when he settles again. Good work on having a go mate...bought my go pro 5 yrs ago. Still sitting in its box.☹️😄😉✌🏽❤️

Hi Toni, thanks heaps for the tips! Yeah, I need to work on my technique when fighting the fish. I think I use a combination of reeling, walking backwards and not having the drag tight enough, whereas, I need to work in those points you mention above. Luckily I still got the fish in this time. I’ll definitely work on this, particularly now I’m starting to get on to some bigger fish. Thanks mate, I’m giving it my best shot! You’ll have to get that GoPro out and start filming some fishing videos. Very much appreciated mate! Cheers.

Thanks so much bud for this vid. Great fish love the fact that you put your rig in your description. I notice its not an expensive rig but you prove you can catch fish without needing to spend 500 on a gteat rod . You have a good style may i recommend you push using your channel to push cheaper gear .some very popular giitar channels tbrive on getti g the nost out of cheap gear and that makes for most of the general peoplr.

Hey @Stephen, thanks for watching this video. It was an awesome fish and put up an epic fight that’s for sure, glad you liked the video. Thanks heaps mate! That’s a great idea to focus on this niche area in videos as a lot of guys will use super expensive gear and the average fisho doesn’t have $500-$1,000 to spend on a combo. I have been able to catch solid land based fish on combos that were very cheap. In this video my Rod was $39.99 half price, Shimano siennas are about $59.95 and the braid was approx $40. Leader was pretty cheap and it’s just a soft plastic which work out cheap per rig. Thanks mate - I might focus on this area more and encourage people that they don’t need expensive setups to still catch quality fish. Cheers mate and I’ll keep this in mind for future videos and the channel brand. Very much appreciated.

You definitely need to tighten your drag up a bit, you want your drag set so when the fish does start to run so your drag should start to work also and as the fishes run increases so to your drag work rate increases. Winding while your drag is working is a waste of time as your not retrieving much line if any at all. Pump and wind when the fish allows you to and let your drag do the work when the fish runs. A good starting point to set your drag is tighten it to a point that you can just pull line off the reel with your hand making sure your pulling the line off about 15-20 cm after the bail arm. When this is done just loosen your drag off about a quarter to half of a turn and your drag will be roughly where it needs to be.

Thank you mate! This is one area I definitely need to improve. I’ve upgraded to some better reels now with better drag but need to still use it correctly. Thank you for your pointers. I have lot a lot of fish due to incorrect drag. I’ll try to fix this in future. One good thing about making the videos is that you constantly learn new things. Appreciate it mate!

Luckily the water wasn’t moving otherwise he would have been hard to stop. Hopefully you can get back out for a fish soon mate! Yew!

@@matthewmorshead2594 Yes, you are right. It is known as a Grunter bream or Javelin Fish. Thanks heaps mate! 🎣 Since I caught this one, I have heard from friends of some big ones being caught between 50cm and 70cm in the bay and up at place like Hervey Bay as well. The would fight really well at that size as this one gave me a good run for my money. Cheers mate, very much appreciated. 🎣

@Gym Tempest thanks heaps mate, It was an awesome session and so stoked with that big Grunter. That’s an awesome idea. I fished on the last 2 hours of the outgoing tide with a Berkley Gulp 3 inch shrimp on a 1/6 2/0 TT tournament series jig head. I just cast them out, let them sink for 5 second and jig them back! Always a chance at some good fish there. Good luck brother! 💯 🎣

Thanks very much mate! I’ve been fishing a few times this week and it’s been really slow for me too. I think it’s to do with the moon phase/ the sea weed etc in the water. Don’t give up mate! It goes through phases of being slow like this. I’m sure if you have good fourocarbon leader, sharp jig heads and plastics with scent you are in with a good shot at some quality fish! Appreciate it mate! Keep up the good work!

@@kratos2758 Hey mate, The lure is Berkley Gulp Shrimp 3 inch Natural Colour, Jig Head: 1/6 2/0 Tournament Series Jig Head light gauge jig head. It’s a pretty good all round choice, just make sure the lures aren’t too old (tough/ hard) and they are well scented. Good luck. 🎣 💯

May I know can I eat the cod in the Brisbane river?
@nigiessquidgies
@nigiessquidgies 2 жыл бұрын
Hey James, I’m not able to give you a definite answer on this as I don’t eat many of the fish I catch and I haven’t eaten Brisbane river Cod. I know the trawlers catch prawns in the Brisbane river and I’ve seen a lot of people who keep fish and prawns. Like bream, snapper and threadfin salmon etc. I would continue to research and ask at some of the local fishing shops. As they will be able to tell you. I myself haven’t eaten any from the Brisbane river, in saying that I release 99% of my fish. Thanks mate and sorry I’m not much help on this. I wouldn’t have any hesitation in eating fish from Gold Coast, Redcliffe and Sunshine Coast etc. But not sure about Brissy river and cod.
