Hey Locklan, I wouldn't say that I'm 100% across all it's functions yet, but what I do know so far helps me plenty. I have a Lowrance HDS 7. So normally, I would have a split screen with sonar image on top half and side scan image on bottom half. I normally fish between 5m and 10m, and I set the depth range to the next depth setting deeper than where I'm fishing e.g. if I'm in 8m, I would set it to 10m. I would be looking for fish showing up as a red/orange arch or multiple individual arches, and baitfish would show up as a mass of the same sort of colours with maybe some blue around it. With the side scan, I would normally have it set at around 40m in 8m depth and it gives me fairly good returns of structure to the left and right of boat. If you're in more shallower water, you would be better off dialing the side scan down to 30m or 20m or even less depending on how shallow. The returns I'm searching for are cockle beds which show up as a large white shape. Or other structure which also normally shows up white, but with a dark shadow behind it. Fish also show up as shadows if they are off the bottom. Thats about all I can tell you because thats all I know. There's another local fellow youtuber that has a video on this topic and it's well worth a watch @Lowysfishing. He's the one that convinced me to get my new sounder and he has helped me along the way with info too. He's a good bloke, and a good bloke to know👍
