Fishing for MONSTER Sailfish in Guatemala

In this episode of BlacktipH, I go fishing for monster sailfish at Casa Vieja lodge in Guatemala in the Pacific Ocean. The day started with us trolling teasers behind the boat on the offshore ledges. Once we found the clean water, the sailfish were everywhere! We hooked double and triple header sailfish. While we were catching and releasing sailfish, David hooked a 20lb mahi-mahi (dorado). The day finished with me catching a monster 140lb sailfish on fly, a potential record-sized fish!

I’ve realized from watching all these fisherman that it’s legally required that they repeat what they say at least 2 times after hooking a fish, and commenting on the quality before it reaches the boat lol. “Let him eat let him eat lest him eat.” Or something like “big fish...nice fish. Good fish.” Love it lol.

Casa Vieja Lodge is definitely one of the best places to go catch some sailfish! I caught my first sailfish on fly there unassisted when I was 10 years old! I post fishing content on KZbin too!

@Agapito Reyes not even... it just needs to rust a tiny bit smaller than the original diameter of the hole it made in the fishes mouth.. so about a week

Even in saltwater hooks will take forever to rust. After all rust needs oxygen to form and there's not much of it underwater! Rusting would actually expand the hook to begin with, whilst at the same time the rust would make it even harder for the fish to shake out as it would also create resistance! On top of all of that scar tissue would form quite quickly which would embed it even more! Basically unless the fish manages to shake it out it'll be there for months. The idea of hooks rusting out in a few days is a fallacy! I did read somewhere once that the stomach acids of sharks can dissolve hooks if they're deeply hooked. This might be true I'm not sure.
