Really cool underwater camera capture. I think if your jig was smaller, you will catch many more. Like a 1/2 to 5/8th ounce ballhead jig with the hook being #2 to 3/0 and daub your curly tail grub with sardine oil or sardine scent. Thanks for the great show.

Really liked the underwater footage. I am interested in targeting starry flounder since they get much larger than other species here and now I know what kind of places to look! The Puyallup river dumps right down the hill from where I live. Good place to start.

I love all of your underwater footage! What other fish or marine wildlife is unable to regulate its own salinity? Is that unusual or common? Hope you are able to make Friday or Sunday's razor clam digs. I hope next year razor clam openings are back to normal. I can't make it for this round of digs either. I'm headed to Newport soon though and hope to get some bay clamming in. Then back to Newport again shortly after for a halibut charter.

Thanks for the kind comments :) A lot of fish are physiologically only able to survive long term in freshwater or saltwater, so it's common for fish to be unable to regulate salinity in the opposite environment for which their adapted, but these flounder are kind of weird in that they live in this in-between zone of mix of fresh and salt water but really need that freshwater input to survive and never undergo a process like salmon where they change their osmoregulation process during the parr to smolt transformation as juveniles as they migrate from their natal freshwater streams out to estuaries and saltwater. They're weirdos but in the best way :) Did you get out on the halibut charter yet?

@@SeaWolfFishing Thank you again for more knowledge sharing! Love it! I've always loved marine biology and wanted to be a marine biologist before a computer scientist. But I came from the middle of the continent with the nearest ocean a 14 hour drive. Walleye and paddle fishing territory. Haven't been out on the halibut charter yet. We're heading out for some bay clamming first and hoping to meet up with Western Eclectic. Will be good to get some shellfishing in. Western Eclectic has me now interested in metal detecting so I've been "dirt fishing" since other things have mostly kept me away from real (reel! Haha) fishing. I live 2 blocks from a sanatorium built in 1903 and I can dirt fish almost anywhere and dig up something interesting.

Very nice footage. Just a quick tip on your fishing. Do not turn the reel handle when you hear your drag slipping. Every turn of the handle puts multiple, usually 5-6 twists in to your line. Instead lift the fish with the rod while and then lower the rod and turn the reel handle to collect the line. The rod pulls in the fish, the reel collects the line. If you hear your drag clicking (slipping) do not turn the reel handle. Cheers 🥂

can i ask why you said “i hope it’s not a rock sole” ?? i am from valdez alaska and had eaten rock sole and i think they are delicious. i’ve never had starry flounder before, but i have heard they are the number 1 best tasting flounder.

What size hooks do u use for flounder and what jigs

I use 3/4 oz jig heads that come with hooks attached...they're rather large (Sorry I can't remember the size but there's a link in the description to give you a better idea if you're curious). I attach white soft plastic grub lures with curly tails in the 4-6 inch size range.

Just a GoPro with underwater housing. I attach it to my fishing line with a helmet extension arm.

It's not accurate to state that Starry Flounder cannot regulate in saltwater. They are fish, not oysters and they can regulate their internal salt balance. I have caught starry flounder in the surf at Twin Harbors, in Oro Bay across from Nisqually, and at Sekiu mixed in with the rockfish and greenling. Other than that, fabulous video.

People used to "fish" Nisqually Delta by walking in the shallow water barefoot ... stepping on a flounder to hold it, and then grabbing it ... I prefer to just by a Big Fish sandwich at Burger King.

Im kind of amazed at how much bottom fish and crab people are eating out of Puget Sound particularly near river mouths where polluted storm water and sewage treatment plant discharge accumulates. There's cleaner area's of Puget Sound where crab,shellfish and other fish are safer to eat but at the mouth of a river found to have high levels of fire retardant chemicals in it I'll pass. Im sure the occasional 3oz portion is ok but personally I steer clear of eating anything off of the bottom of most of Puget Sound.
