Fishing & Hiking Chilnualna Creek and Falls, Yosemite N.P., California

Merry Christmas. This is my gift to the angling community.
Chilnualna Creek in Yosemite National Park, California offers fishing for wild rainbow trout. A trail follows the stream but there are cliffs and rugged terrain along the way. A hike of 4 miles and 2,400' elevation gain will bring you to a stream crossing near a spectacular set of waterfalls. Fishing is good here and reported to be good above the falls. I did some climbing and found the action to also be good in the lower section. The rainbows aren't large but are vividly colored and fun to catch. There is a trailhead for parking near the end of Chilnualna Road. While I saw many other people hiking along the trail I didn't notice anyone fishing other than myself.

can one fish Chilnualna creek in early april (like 3,4,5,6 th) 2024?

Good question. Run off probably won't be happening by early April so the water might be low enough although it will be cold. I would worry about the long trail to the stream being snowed in but I don't know.

@@CoppersmithStudios1thanks. i was just wondering if it was legal to fish during early spring on that creek. i know you have to use barbless hooks and lures/flies and can't keep any fish. it is close to the Merced river south fork which is the one listed in the regulations as not being able to fish until 3rd saturday in april..
