Good test but honestly do you drag your kayak completely empty? I don’t think so. A sufficient test would be to load the kayak as if you were headed to the lake with power poles, graphs, loaded tackle, batteries, and rods. There would be a lot more damage done to the hull if it was loaded down.
@ChadHooverFishing6 жыл бұрын
You will see the results of that too. 😜

I can't help but think about the folks who really baby their kayaks. They are careful to never drag it a foot on concrete. They put all kinds of odd products from tape to bed liner on the bottom to "protect" the hull. And here we see 15 miles of dragging on the bare hull, still with a solid bottom. Awesome.

This makes me feel a heck of a lot better. I have the Old Town Sportsman 106PDL. I live on the lake. I haven’t worried about wheels because I usually drag it across grass and then maybe 15 feet of dried clay and then sand to the waters edge. Since we’ve been in a drought, the lake is way down and what is exposed is wet clay that you sink half way up your shins. Yesterday, not thinking, that’s where a launched. I got it in the water, but I knew I’d have to come in at a different spot. I found better solid ground about a quarter mile around the corner. It’s not very far unless you are dragging a boat loaded down with all your fishing gear.😂. I walked back to the house and got my little tractor and drug it that quarter of a mile on the sand back to my launch behind the house. I was so afraid that I was going to ruin my kayak with the friction of the hot sand scrapping the underside of a ten foot piece of plastic. I put it in the garage and didn’t look to see the damage. So, today I was looking for a good cart that would handle rough terrain and came across this video of yours. I am soooo glad I did! I just went out to the garage and looked under my kayak. There’s barely a few hairline scratches on it. Solid as a rock. I don’t usually leave long comments, but after seeing your video, I had to tell my little story.

I've worked for a couple major kayak makers doing rotomolding and I've done some destruction testing on culled boat. @levicoua6 жыл бұрын
The key is to drag it with the kayak being completely flat on the ground like how you have it. This way the weight is more evenly distributed instead of on just one spot. I learned this the hard way. For 3 years I dragged my kayak by lifting the front from the grab handle. This distributed all the weight to one spot and created a hole at the stern of my kayak. I know better now.
@ChadHooverFishing6 жыл бұрын
LChang127 you will want to see Part 2 on Monday then. 🤔
@levicoua6 жыл бұрын
Chad Hoover Just watched it. That bonafide is pretty tough. Seems like dragging it as low or flat as possible and keel gaurds are the way to go. If only you posted these videos a few years earlier. That way I might've been able to save all my electronics that got flooded inside my hull! Thanks for the vids, keep it up!

That was awesome. I'm so glad I just bought a new ss127. One thing I don't have to worry about now. Durability testing is a great thing. @ChadHooverFishing6 жыл бұрын
There was no comparison to be made. It was a test for durability for this kayak. Polyethylene for the most part is the same, with the exception of design, it’s all the same. This test wasn’t designed to be a comparison, it was designed to say, “Don’t worry so much about dragging your kayak as long as you aren’t in it and it ain’t loaded with 100#!”
