I put 12LB fishing line on my acoustic guitar. It worked out a lot better than I thought. It's a very cheap alternative!
Thanks to Fender PLAY I can do KZbin part-time. If you want to learn acoustic/electric guitar and become better than me, this is the place to go. Right now they're offering a 30-day FREE trial prf.hn/click/camref:1100l4cMG so you can try it out. (They even have a sleek app). Try it out now! I wish this existed when I started learning

J. Grimes it’s very strong, even just the weaker regular fishing line can reel in a freshwater fish 24+ inches long (probably somewhere from 5-8 pounds depending). With a strong fish like a smallmouth that’s quite a bit of force between it fighting and reeling in

as someone who's had fluorocarbon strings (basically just fishing line) on my ukulele I'm not at all surprised this sounds good. I actually saw a video of someone who custom makes ukuleles and buys fishing line to use as the strings because it's more cost effective than buying individual sets of fluorocarbon strings when you need strings for a lot of ukuleles.

Experiment: If you use more strands and turn them to one string, you get a thick string for a bass string. People playing "talharpa" or "Tagelharpa" use that teknique to make strings in different thickness. It's used as an alternative to horsehair strings. I use "artificial sinew" (normally used to sew leather) for my tagelharpa- and lyrestrings .

Sounds somewhere between a classical guitar, a uke, and a banjo. Lovely folksy instrument you made!

This is not a bad idea at all: I have been more than once it the situation where a string broke on a Sunday morning or on vacation with no guitar shop in the area. If I knew, I could have used this idea as a temporary solution. Thanks for that !

I had to do this once with one of my soprano ukes, but I had a few different weights of fishing line from my brother's tacklebox to work with so it didn't sound toooo bad.
