Wonderful scenery in any weather condition. Your first perch in Loch Doon was a nice surprise. Thank you Davie; a history lesson to add even more interest to your fly fishing lesson. Really great to see you tie the flies, then fish them.

Great stuff Davie, I always enjoy your videos. Reminds me of growing up in Wales and fishing the many reservoirs around my area. They were very similar in appearance with the exception of a dam wall at the end. Love your fly tying and have copied many of your patterns (not to your standards of course) but I have lived in New Zealand for the last 30 years and in some of our rivers a tiddler would run to 2 or 3 pounds. Keep up the great work!

Back in the late eighties I was at Albemarle Barracks near Newcastle at one point we had highlanders as RSM also one as Provost. The recruits were both Scots Div And Kings Div. When talking about fishing I was asked. What waters I had fished in Scotland? And which ones were my favourites. I later told them that both the RSM & Provost had the same favourite water. They searched all the ordinance survey maps and none of them ever found it. Loch Kimup. Both of them were in a on the joke. If asked they would reply. “Lock Him up!” For about half an hour lol

Great stuff Davie, what a lovely place! The water seems quite low, I had not realised it was used for hydro power.

As much as it makes me home sick, I have enjoyed watching your fishing videos. It’s been too long since I’ve fished a loch, probably the lochs above Kilmelford. Re fishing in windy conditions, something of which I have great experience living and fishing in the highlands of Tasmania, the advice I give any fly fisher once they have become a competent caster is to learn to cast with the other arm. It doubles your fly fishing capability and helps with wind coming from the wrong direction or dealing with a pesky tree behind you. I wrecked my shoulder a couple of years ago. I had a choice of no fishing for several months, the trout season had only just opened, or learn to cast left-handed. Within weeks I was back catching fish. I may not have the distance of my right arm, but I have the accuracy and I catch most of my fish at 10-15 m.

Better luck next time, Davie. It can be dour but as you said, the trout come into Carrick Lane for spawning at this time of the year and we've had some good ones not far from that bridge in the past. It is a bit worrying with the loch so low that some trout may not get over the falls.

Great filming again Davie, really appreciate your efforts. Many years ago I would walk along the Doon from Dalrymple to Patna, cracking piece of water. Unfortunately never made it up to loch Doon, what a spectacular and peaceful place. Do Salmon run up into the loch ? Cheers

Davie, why do they have the rocks lined u like that? Is it man made or natural ?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Jay, The rocks that are lying in a row are man made as these are the old stone wall/dykes which you will see all over Scotland and in many parts of the UK..These ones are from the time before the loch was dammed for the hydro electric system.. All the very best Davie

Davie are you allowed to fish after sundown? Or even very close to sundown? Over here on Alberta lakes where they have Browns, some of the largest fish come to large streamers fished in the dark. Here we have Grizzly Bears but we make noise and have not had any issues. It is kind of worth it because big Browns tend to hunt in the dark, all you need is a streamer that moves water. Great show on this Loch Davie, it was enjoyable.
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail Жыл бұрын
Hi Kerry, I would agree fishing until it's dark and even in the dark can be the best time to catch the larger fish as I used to do this a lot on this loch, when I was a boy I would do this all through the summer when school was out...I will make a point in fishing next year on Loch Doon as it would make a great video...There's no bears or wolfs anymore here in Scotland only midges which are only a couple of millimetres and swarm in millions when there's no wind and if you don't have something to stop them bitting then they would drive you mad so I would rather have wolfs and bears...I'm glad you enjoyed it.. All the very best Davie

@@DavieMcPhail yeah I always fish with a slower friend! Nudges do not play favorites. When I first started fly fishing, the "Mosquito,* was a favored pattern. I never understood who the heck would fish during a mosquito hatch!!
