Thank you for the video I enjoyed it. I'm buying a Hewescraft soon myself to do the exact same thing.

Great boat and great set up! Look forward to more fishing videos and would love to see a video of your boat and set up.

Would you stay with the Pro V or do you wish you went with the Sea Runner? Happy with the 18’?
@supergarball5 жыл бұрын
Never thought of that, great idea! I’ll definitely plan on doing that in a months or so when I get the boat prepped for the season. I was originally planning on buying the Searunner 20 but after stepping into the ProV, it became apparent the fishing deck is almost the same size. Everybody who checks the boat out can’t believe it’s only an 18. Hewes did a great job on the design of this boat. It’s also lighter than the Searunner, allowing me to run a smaller engine giving me more range for less money in fuel. It handles just fine in rough seas.

Hooked a huge one out Craig Alaska and fought it for 43 minutes. It pulled an old 29 foot plywood boat into the wind thats how big it was. The guy said it was about 325 lbs. when the guy shot it with his .45 , it slowly sank into the dephs. He was so apolajetic, i felt bad for him. My line was so frayed after 43 minutes that the line snapped. Will use steel leader if i ever go halibut fishing again. Looked as big as the kitchen table.

That was exciting start to finish thanks for sharing, great fish! And nice job! I’ve just recently discovered these HewesCraft boats and I’d love to buy one! What top speed are you able to achieve with that 115 on your 200 pro V and what mileage are you getting? Thanks! Do you still have your boat?

How far did you have to run to find the hali? Any hints as to spot? I am heading up end of July this year and would like to get my friends into their first halis and lings. Mahalo.

Your reel will last longer if you take the clicker off. Good for bite detection.

I always pull some slack line once fish is boated so i dont get a loose flying hook, weight, or a rod tip in the eye. Love to feel the power they have. Perfect size to eat. Caught a huge one off Prince of Whales Island that pulled the boat backwards into the wind. Thought i was going to have to get a shoulder replacement afterwards, man they are strong. Did you get those rod holds moved yet? I fish by myself most of the time too.
@supergarball4 жыл бұрын
Allan Close That’s some good points. Haven’t thought about the rod holders but I’ll go look at the boat next week and see what makes sense. Even the salmon are big up there and do a number on my arms.

You are well prepared, thats for sure. How is the maintenance with the electric reel? Any issues with it? It seems like a good investment.
@supergarball5 жыл бұрын
No issues, maintenance is minimal as long as it’s rinsed with fresh water. Sure cuts down on wasting energy; I need every bit I can get.
@kpnitrl385 жыл бұрын
By the way, I never would have considered an electric reel until I saw how much it helped Landing that halibut.

How u like your Yamaha 115 ? I'm thinking to repower outboard to Yamaha 115.
@supergarball4 жыл бұрын
Fishing Washington state. It’s been really good other than the time the voltage regulator failed and took 6 weeks to get in (all under warranty). Power is smooth and it’s quiet. Frankly, you can’t go wrong with any of the modern outboards anymore.

How did you know it was in the slot size before you gaffed it?
@supergarball5 жыл бұрын
Howard Barker Vinyl tape mark on my harpoon. Pre measured so makes it easy to lay it besides the catch while it’s still in the water.

Have you been happy with the PRO V. I’m been going back between the PRO V ET 200 and the 21 Sea Runner ET. I’m nervous to go with the Pro V and not have enough boat to go out in the ocean. From looking at your video it looks like it can handle the open ocean well enough.
@supergarball2 жыл бұрын
I was sceptical too. The first time I went out to open ocean on the ProV I almost shit myself. The swells were so big I disappeared in the trough, come back up on the peaks looking down 20’. The boat did just fine, even in rough seas. Having said that, it’s always better to have a heavier boat in the ocean.
@SunnyHorn9672 жыл бұрын
@@supergarball Do you have trim tabs on the boat?

@@SunnyHorn967 No. I just try to keep the boat balanced.

what camera/ mount and mic set up are you running? I loved how smooth your camera footage was when you were motoring out there.
@supergarball3 жыл бұрын
Sony POV (AS200 I think). I have 3 of them and they're all great. I use RAM mounts on the boat.
@user-ql1nn4ix8h3 жыл бұрын
@@supergarball Thanks for the response. Are you using a stabilizer of some sort too, some sort of gimble? I don't know anything about cameras (As i'm sure you can tell HAHA).
@supergarball3 жыл бұрын
@@user-ql1nn4ix8h Just the built in stabilizer. Most POV cameras have them as a standard feature. The GoPros have even more stabilization.

You made me tired just watching you try to haul that halibut in. Good job on that. I hope you post a couple more videos this summer. By the way, how do you like your boat? I was considering a Duckworth for a future purchase in a few years but I've heard good things about your boat as well.
@supergarball5 жыл бұрын
Troy Howard Duckworth is a good boat. I looked at one as well and only went with the Hewes bc of the deal I got. The ProV18 is a good boat, I like it a lot, does everything including heavy seas. It’s got more room than one expects for an 18 compared to the others. The Duckworth appears to be better built though.
