I agree when snagged using the reel to pull free or break the line is asking for internal damage. Especially with the braided lines. But the quality of the metal on reels manufactured in China is also suspect. You've showed that in more than one video. Standard when we were kids was 8-10 lb. mono on a spinning reel. No problem breaking that. Keep the great videos coming.

Thanks Paul - Folks forget that the line is stronger than the force needed to break the internals. This wa a good reminder - Dennis

I have a penn fierce III live liner, same size, love to see a video on one, mine has so far has served well so far. It even got its line snagged by a cruiser boat and had no issues after the line break. Sad they are so complex.

I don't have that one in the shop. I think the lower half is pretty much the same. They changed the drag stack in the 3rd version, but I think they left the mechanicals alone. I will add your request to my list and try to do a video when one comes in for service. - Thanks - Dennis

I bought a 6000 brand new a year ago just got to use it . In live liner mode and line goes out the spool wobbly I think the jerks sold me a return. I need to find a place to get it fixed. I think it's a bent shaft. I can't return it shops now 3 states away and amount of time.

What would cause that to happen...

Good question. I have seen a lot of parts fail but that's a first.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
I will ask the owner. My guess is that it snagged something and had heavy braid on the spool. The owner likely tried to power through it to reel out of the snag and the weakest link, the gear teeth gave way. I encourage anyone fishing reels with a snag to wrap the line around a knife or the pole handle and pull with that rather than trying to reel out of it. I will let you know if I learn more from the owner - Thanks - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle ok yea that makes sense it would strip the gears at the weakest link or gear...

Most don't understand how many parts are in a baitrunner/baitfeeder reel. Most people just throw them away anymore. Buy the quality you want and maintain it. These are complicated reels. Even old Shimano's have nearly 140 parts. Think about what you buy. Reels don't mainly fail as much as the owners maintenance.

I didnt realize until I took one apart. Mine was a 25$ aliexpress special so the stakes were low, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't sour me on the idea of a live liner. Even a quality one with so many potential failure points is nerve wracking, especially on a big reel intended for "lifetime" fish.

Thanks for the comments. There is a reason many bait shops and repair services don't do bait feeder reels! I continue to do them, but they take longer and as you've noted, they are a lot more complicated than the average top drag counterparts.
