This is a perfect idea. In fact I purchased this product that you can get on Amazon dot-com they are called Rod floats. Once I purchase them I realized that a pool noodle would have been perfect it is basically the same thing. You have a good idea here. It is perfect for kayakers like myself. Tight lines

Hi KayakDIY, In South Africa on our kayaks we create a small loop from dacron, braid, dyneema which we then put between the reel seat and the winch and then tighten up the winch. i.e. you now have a small loop of dacron sticking out from under the reel seat. We then create a 50cm length of stretch cord or similar with 2 carabiners on each end. 1 clips onto the kayak at an eyelet and the other to your dacron loop. This method is used as we fish offshore in the ocean and this a quick method to keep your rods attached to your kayak should you roll at sea or have the fish pull the rod out of your hands. Hope it makes sense.

Some people complained about putting an eyelet at rod end. I understand that with some saltwater offshore rods and it impeding ability to use fighting belt. However, I LOVE the eyelets on my lighter rods. Just personal preference. You can also make some leashes out of old coiled cellphone cords, weed eater line, and other items. Lots of options. I have never flipped my PA14, but I still tie everything down because someday I will. Just a matter of time!

Cool video very helpful do you like the Mitchell avocet rod and reel ?

+Garrett McKenzie : I have used Mitchell rods for a long time. It is a great freshwater rod. I paired mine up finally with rods called Ugly Sticks. I use them for saltwater fishing occasionally. In fact I caught a pretty nice snook with one last week. I got the Mitchell Advocet rod/reel combos for $15 at Walmart during clearnace...it was a steal! My main saltwater rods are Penns.

Yes like a run down of your kayak

Uhhh, zip ties work too... Just make a small ring on the skinny part of the pole (where the paracord is at in the video) using zip ties with the carabiner attached. Lock the zip tie loose enough to slide up and down the rod section so it won't bother you.
Some cool ideas but your preferred method may may have issues if you need to put your rod in a rod holder.

Very true. Just playing with ideas. Appreciate feedback.

it should have no issue. Not sure of the rod holder but you just have enough slack line.

Lost my favorite rod and reel yesterday. So here I am trying to protect my new rod.

Not sure I would want to attach an eyelet to the bottom of the rod. Kinda tends to ruin the rod....I'd go with the paracord idea first.

Here's an idea. Get a tripod and stop waving the camera all over the place.
