For some reason all my clinch knots break really easily on anything smaller than 5x. I stopped using fly fishing tippet though, its too expensive. Now I'll typically use a 7.5ft or 9ft 4x or 5x tapered leader, and add to that 2ish feet of 5lb fluro. And then just continue to re-add the fluro when needed.

Go Utah! fishing the no-see-um on the provo quite a bit. I just make shorter casts so I can see and kneel down if I have to.

Kneeling definitely helps with the glare.

Nice day for a February! What is the rod, reel, line set-up that you were using? Tight lines!
@musiccityanglers Жыл бұрын
I was using a Sage Circa (discontinued but a great dry fly rod), some old also discontinued Sage Reel, and a Scientific Anglers Trout Taper line

@morgannowelsfishing5673 1 year later and I'm back here trying to figure out how to fish small flies to stupid picky fish on the canyon section of the lower provo. Went out today from 5am to 2pm and caught 3 fish. I could see the fish, but the little jerks wouldn't eat what i was tossing. Smallest thing i fished was a size 16 thing with hares ear and cdc i tied up on an fulling mill 90 degree jig hook.

Morgan, do you tie your 2nd fly to the hook or to the hook eye?
@musiccityanglers3 жыл бұрын
While dry fly fishing I tie it to the bend of the hook of the front fly. When nymphing I usually fish on droppers, or eye to eye,

Don't need to see the fly. It's right where I cast it.
