I'm on a camper van adventure fishing for salmon and sea trout on the rivers Border Esk, North Tyne and South Tyne after summer floods.

Top angling dude. Good decision to move on to the north. Good reading of the water too. Looks like you got your mojo back there. Looking forward to fishing up your way with Stokoe next season

Nice water that for daytime sea trouting .plenty of colour and faster the better, i usually stick to stoats tail tubes in various sizes as I've stateted before, sedburgh anglers stretch on the lune is full of um at the moment. And just like salmon don't strike ,let em take line ,as little resistance as possible on the line .

Good to know that there are plenty of fish this year. Thanks for the pointers.

Hi Rob, absultely brilliant videos! Looking to do some salmon fishing maybe late August, Sept or Oct on on of the Tynes? Would love your advice for a once a year Salmon fisherman..
@abakerslife4 ай бұрын
Hi, glad you're enjoying the videos. Any of the day ticket Tyne beats will give you a good chance of a fish in September and October. My personal choice would be Styford because I like the variety of pools. Warden or Chesters also offer lovely fishing. If you are brave enough to leave the booking to the last minute then I would fish the south Tyne if there is any water as it's a brilliant river though there isn't as much day ticket access.

Some lovely sea trout there. I know the feeling of being only a mile or so from a 30lber being caught. Happened to my this year on the findhorn. That colour of water reminded me of the findhorn that river must run through some peat somewhere.
@abakerslife9 ай бұрын
Yes it runs from Alston moor which is all peat moorland. If that 30lber came from Drynacchen then I know the guy who caught it. The one on the border esk was caught less than 1/2 a mile below me that day. Sadly the stars didn't align.
@Hardlinesangling9 ай бұрын
@abakerslife yes it was Drynachan I was fishing at pollochaig with cornish Chris the fish and heard about it the next day. Chris lost two salmon that day.
@abakerslife9 ай бұрын
Apparently they weighed it and it was 26 but the ghillie was very keen on it being a 30! I'm keeping an an eye on availability for next year as I want to have a few days there.
@Hardlinesangling9 ай бұрын
@abakerslife still a very decent fish. At drynachan or pollochaig?
@abakerslife9 ай бұрын
Drynachan- it was highly recommended

I enjoyed your video very much. I’ll be using my own 13ft Shakespeare Oracle around Fowey soon trying for whatever will take. What fly did the Tortillas take? Best wishes.
@abakerslifeАй бұрын
Good luck. I honestly can't remember but it was probably a small black and silver tube fly with a small orange cone.

How difficult is it to cast like that?
@abakerslife5 ай бұрын
It's not too difficult to be able to spey cast but it is bloody hard to do it well. I'm far from an expert.

Hi Mate, What fishing ticket did you buy? If you bought a Langholm ticket you should not be fishing from that bank... its privately owned. Yes i know it fishes better from that side but you are poaching unless you have permission of course.
@abakerslife9 ай бұрын
Hi, it's a Tyneside Angler's Syndicate beat of which I am a member.
@CallumHepworth-Smith9 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, i meant the beat on the Border Esk? My bad for not making it clear 🙂 @@abakerslife
@abakerslife9 ай бұрын
The left bank at Langholm is leased by TAS hence all the TAS private fishing signs.

Hmm, remember that seatrout generally likes more speed across the river than the salmon does and they tend to stand in calmer water most of the time. If you put a swimmingmask on and some big paddles on your feet and swim through a couple pools you will find out what i mean pretty fast. idk how many 100 dives or swims call it what you want i have here in norway but the seatrouts are always in the calmer areas in the pool even in very low and warm water conditions. many will say it's because the salmon pressure them out of the good spots but even in pools without a single salmon they still stand in the calm spots.

One of the best sea trout rivers where I’m from has zero to no flow on it.
@MrKveite19 ай бұрын
yeah they dont normally enjoy a lot of current.@@Andriasocianain
@rupertfraser79909 ай бұрын
I think its generally different here in the UK. I fish highland spate rivers and have almost exclusively caught sea trout in the main flow of the river. One of the best times to get them is at night where they are frequently recorded moving up the pool and lying right in the head, in the main, faster riffle. perhaps the freshness of the fish and how long its been in the river might make a difference?
@MrKveite19 ай бұрын
Here it is the other way around, both salmon and seatrout move down towards the tail at night no mather if its 2 km from the sea or 100 km from the sea and sealiced or VERY dark coloured fish.@@rupertfraser7990
