Great video johny, I got a pair of Costa 580 G Permit, and found they fogged up bad so went back and had them changed for the Costa 580 G Mag Bay and absolutley love them. Green mirror lens is perfect for my land based estuary fishing. Most expensive glasses I have ever got but well worth it, totally changed my fishing, I highly recommend them.

Hi Jon, I had for many years a set of $70 Ugly Fish and loved them, they felt great and covered my eyes well. 5 years ago I bought myself a pair of glass photo chromatic spotters and have never looked back. I know they are very expensive but I look after them as I would my boat and my fishing gear and they are still going great.

I had a great pair of Maui Jim's and one day when packing up my gear into my car I left them on the roof of my car and that was it. I miss having a great pair, I need to buy another pair. Its nothing to spend a few hundred $$ on tackle, rods or reels but the eyes are more important. Great video

Very thorough vid, John. Thanks. One thing I found is that some brands don't cater for people with wide heads. They are simply too narrow. I ended up with Spotters, as they do particular 'wide fit' models in the blue reflective glass lens (wraparound) that suit my head shape. They have been excellent so far. The other problem I'm facing later in life is deteriorating eyesight, and will have to soon explore the options for prescription lenses unfortunately.

Currently on the Maui Jim pokowai arch and also red sands (more wrap). I run both these as they have the soft nose pads like reading glasses that push them out off my eyelashes. One pair is high contrast (HT) lenses for low light or clear water, the see other in a blue/green for bluewater and driving, grey are also great for everything. Best tip I have heard for keepers is some heavy braid or Dacron tied through a little hole in the back of the arms.

I fly fish for trout and spend most of the time wading through creeks, streams and rivers. I carry some green mirrors for the bright light and copper/brown photochromatic lenses for the low light. I prefer the polycarbonate lenses due to weight/comfort for long days and in case they drop onto rocks or the water, as they also float…

Love the Costa and Maui brands, looking for a new pair at the moment and may head back to Maui. After having Costa glass for the last 3-4 years I don't think I could go back to plastic but I get the weight thing, they're heavy. Check out the superthin glass Maui's though John, I genuinely thought they were a plastic lens they were that light.

Excellent vid mate . Been through 4 sets of Spotters Christo's , 1 with reflective lens , 3 with the photochromatic penetrator lens . Fitted my big boof head really well . Saw your Maui's and recently bought a pair of them...world cup I thing they are . Really like the sprung hinges on the Mauis , and they feel a bit lighter than the Spotters

Great Vid, when I got my terrigiams done , the eye guy, said throw that baseball style cap to the shit house, as they let glare in the sides, so in the sun it's wide bream for me. I recently bought some tonic glasses, but coudnt believe no one has made glasses that protect your eyes from the the side glare, like my work sunnies do. All the top brands are the same, you were spot on John, that side glare is the killer, maybe a company will see the light and provide something in the future.after being on my yak for a few hrs, the tonics hurt my ears, lol.

Top tips there mate, i didnt actually know the little test using 2 sunnies for the polarised, turns out mine are somewhat average haha. Hey John, ive had a pair of Bartz Optics for years. The ones i have, have a bifocal lense built in so for tying knots i can focus in on what im doing without having to swap glasses. John ive had similar experiences and I've used cheap and expensive Polaroids working ad a marine biologist in the reef, fly fishing in Nz and flatty fishing. I thought glass maui Jims were the bomb until i used Costa del Mars 5 or so years ago. Glass Costas by far the best resolution and clarity ive ever had.. which is important when your fishing or navigating a reef with a 30 tonne boat!

Hay mate love ya work gets me keen for a fish everytime i watch one of ya videos always great information, I have a pair of spotters copper lenses with no mirror great for everything but just find that they still get a bit of glare coming through just wondering before I shell out another couple of green backs💰 for some copper lenses with the green mirror lenses weather they cut the glare out substantially compared to no mirror , do a lot of flicking for jack n barra in the estuaries and never go offshore cause I get sea sick in the bath 🤢🤣 , I would test the mirror ones out myself if they let you take them out on the water before ya buy them but sadly they don't 🐟🐟🐟cheers

Service stations by law can not sell sunglasses if it not meets the requirements of Australia standards all sunglasses are uv400 Note.. sunglasses lenses do have an expiry date from exposure to UV if for instance you wear your favourite pair every day then you need to replace your Lens every year because the UV protection on your sunglasses breaks down from exposure So the question do you buy cheap and throw away every year or replace your expenses lenses Not many people know and wear there expensive sunglasses for many years and are doing more harm than good Take your pair of sunglasses and take them to your optometrist and they can test how much UV protection you have left on those lenses

Have you been lucky enough to have surgery on a pterygium? I had one removed this year, not much fun! I fish with Spotters, I have both the blue and the brown glass lenses. The blue seems better for most of the blue water fishing and in the canals, the brown is better up the creeks and in fresh water. Blue also seems to scratch a little easier!

Great video You told me more than a eyeglass business I have 2 pair Oakley Fishing Blue which are Polarized and most important Progressive lens. Which are wonderful for tying knots and then looking through water for amazing views. How we the cost is $800 ea….. My largest complaint on Oakley is Even tho I have been super careful I manage to knock them off and they fall to the ground And scratched lens… It don’t take much. Have tried to buff out infractions but doesn’t work I would have thought the lenses would have been more scratch resistant… at $800 Frame and Lens Any thoughts on how to take out dings? Can you suggest a better device for hanging them around your neck? Both times I accidentally flipped them on the ground I had the glasses up on my cap..,. My fault Great video
