Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod kzbin.infoUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

"A big fish that pulls a bunch of line really fast, then you're gonna wanna go ahead a loosen that drag" ?? I think you meant to say TIGHTEN that drag. Correct? Because I'm confused now!
@Seb0495-y3f8 жыл бұрын
+pandonia77 Yes, he means tighten, but not to the point where you are putting too much stress on the line.
@takemefishing8 жыл бұрын
Yes, he means tighten the line
@jesseoiler30135 жыл бұрын
If you get a big fish you DONT want it too tight or it will snap your line almost immediately. Also, loosening it, will wear the fish out thus allowing you to reel it in much quicker with less of a fight.

It is a DRAG! I lost the big one Cuz some older gentleman decided to tighten my drag while I was trying to wear him out. He did it so fast I didn't even have time to react, and within seconds the line snapped and THE BIG ONE GOT AWAY!!

Dont expect you to respond too quick but it is counterclockwise or clockwise to tighten

My new idea is to have a pole with drag setting 1 to 10 somebody ask where to set it you have the numbers tell them set it on 4 or 7 etc

I was tought it's best to set your drag at 1/5 your line test and adjust up or down as needed from the boat. so 20lb test = 4lb drag.
@takemefishing8 жыл бұрын
Correct. It will depend on your preference
@briananuvattanachai66467 жыл бұрын
If the drag is too lose the line will tend to bundle up wouldn't it?
@lachlanoneil89385 жыл бұрын
I use like 10lb with 20 lb line I would use heavier line but I need the best presentation.
@lesrinehart9334 жыл бұрын
The equation is 20 % of poundage so .20x20=4

So when you loosen drag after hooking a big fish so it can run, do you then tighten drag before reeling it in? If so, tighten a lot or? Just trying to understand how to mess with drag while catching
@fryzee97898 ай бұрын
Depends on the line strength. A 30kg yellow fin on 80lb braid can handle a lot of drag, but a fish of the same size with a softer mouth might not tolerate high drag. Remember the drag system is supposed to tire the fish out so you can bring it to the boat, if it does multiple big runs, you can dial the drag up so it takes the fish more energy to run and reduces the ultimate fight time. A general rule when trolling for marlin fishing is 30-50% of the line class. So if you’re running 15kg mono, 6kg of drag is probably optimal. So without being conclusive, it depends on a number of factors and the type of fish your hooking.
@cjtcabrera18934 жыл бұрын
Do not mess with it when you have a big fish! You can initially before but after it starts pulling dont mess with it or it'll break.
@DavidMoore123452 жыл бұрын
I think he meant to say if you have a big fish thats taking out the line, tighten the drag not loosen, but either way shouldnt touch it
@canam2436 Жыл бұрын
@@DavidMoore12345 maybe not. If it’s a big fish and he’s pulling like a freight train, he’ll snap the line if you tighten it while he’s running. I’m thinking that’s why he said loosen it, although if it’s pulling out line I don’t think you need to loosen it any more

what you do if you tight the drag to the last point and still keep moving

It's not to the left or to the right. It's clockwise or counterclockwise. Think of the drag adjustment handle as a screw. BTW, the "top crank of your reel" is not the drag adjuster.

@lesrinehart9334 жыл бұрын
The actual formula is 20% so you say for instance using 15 pound line. .20 x15 = 3 pounds of drag.
