Ah the old cairncross dry dock gate, I used to work in there, when we shut the gate and pumped the water out the fish that used to get trapped in there was amazing. We regularly had to put huge grouper threads Jew snapper and sharks in a pallet basket and crane them back Into the river. If you want to try upstream a bit the mouth of Oxley creek and the creek is pretty good, deep hole at the mouth some good structure and a couple of bridges upstream. You can launch at the sea scouts pontoon at the mouth

Nice work! What size jig head do you use around the gateway?

Thanks mate. A lot variables go into what weight needed as there’s good shallow structure and very deep water, plus the river current…but 2.5-3 inch plastics generally 1/16-1/8…4-5inch go 1/6 to 3/8…I usually use vibes in the 10m+ depths 👍🏻

Good session! That was a stonking bream, would like to have seen that mystery fish that got away. Had me thinking GT towards the end.

The bouncy rod at the end made me think GT to..it pulled hard! My pb is 52cm on 10lb so this thing must have been 60-70+ if that’s the case 😬

I’ve had some cracking bust offs around the pylons of that first jetty and also caught plenty of gts and flatties. Ive caught jew on the other side. I catch heaps on bream around that old dry dock and mouth of that little creek. Run out is great around there and first of the run in for bream.

i say it was small bullsharks 50cm-80cm mark that bit you off its not uncommon to land them on small plastics hard bodys when they are hungry
