This is the best smallmouth river by far. Have a 21 1/3in mounted i caught in 1994 from there. I was 10. Now we kayak or canoe from that spot where you park. Down river the land owners are strict n gotta have permission to hit those stretches now a days. You can easily catch 8-12in smalleys all day n 1 of 10 will be 1-2lbs (12-16in). But sometimes you get to hook into 4-5 pounders. Not often though. Awesome vid!

Kilbuck creek and Kishwaukee river are 2 of the best Smally rivers in Illinois. I catch 16 and 18 inchers almost every time I go out.

Nice dude. 18" is getting up there for a river smallie. I have some bucket list places in Wisconsin I need to fish that hold 20's and bigger.

Very cool seeing you catch your first smallmouth ever! Not sure what creek that is, but I fish Salt creek in my area and pull up some beautiful smallies, largemouth and occasionally a bluegill. Creek fish are definitely fun.

The Kankakee has some monster smallies! Even the ones that aren’t tanks fight like tanks. And they’re absolutely gorgeous. K3 River Rats for life.

I have a bunch of Wisconsin spots I want to dump the yak in one day. The Kankakee isn't too out of the way if I'm able to put together that trip.

FloBass it’s worth it. A little honey hole is the Kankakee River State Park, there’s a creek right there called Rock Creek, I’ve fished it all my life and it’s a hotbed for smallmouth. The only downside is, the people that aren’t there to fish, but if you go during the week, and before 3/4 o clock it isn’t bad at all.

FloBass you can wade most of the river as well. Just don’t go too far towards the middle. And you can drop a yak anywhere.

Its a beautiful place. I'd like to go back soon with my kayak in case the water is too high like it was in this vid. This way I can wade and just tow the yak behind me, then paddle the deeper parts. 21 hour car drive for me though...

​@@FloBass Take your time. There have been two huge floods since you were there that have completely disrupted the habitat. I haven't caught a single fish in those areas in 2019 or 2010. I was there on election day and got skunked as I expected. This happened once before and it took the river 3-4 years to recover. I still love going out there though. If you ever make it back, I can share some spots you may have missed. Kayak is a great idea!

Another place would be the current river or jacks fork in southern Missouri. It seems like I caught a smallmouth every other cast. They have blue ribbon trout streams there too. And the best part is you don't have to leave sec country.

There's a lot of creeks just like this throughout Illinois and the Midwest. Get on the DNR's website for each state and they'll point you to some incredible places to get your feet wet and bend a rod on some creek smallies.

Nice video man. Gotta get you out on the fox river south of yorkville, gets really nice and scenic down there with lots of rock bluffs along the river, and GREAT fishing.

Heard good things about the fox. I'll be back up there in a year or two. I tried to make it to the bluff walls in this spot, but the water was up way too high. Barely made a dent in this creek.

Yeah definitely a new addiction. I'm trying to make this creek a yearly ritual. Not sure if its going to happen this year though. Truck and boat come this year which is a kick start investment to something that will transform my life and career.

FloBass It will still be there.I didn’t make it back there last year, but did scratch a few more watersheds off the bucket list, and finally landed my first 20” Bronzeback. I’m definitely returning there this year after watching your vid-I’m homesick.

lol yeah I had to go back and watch it after your comment. The water was super high and I didn't get to go that far up stream as I wanted to. I had a few pins on google maps to get to about a mile and a half from the parking lot. 20 incher is a nice smallie! They fight similar to peacock bass so I bet it was a sick fight. End of June-July is when the water levels are at their lowest in that area as long as you don't get a big rain like I did a few days in advance of your trip. Next year I'm making it a priority to go. I'll have to hit you up when I have a date planned and maybe we could meet up at the famous creek.

Yak is definitely on my mind. Life changed plans on me so I'm not going all out like I wanted, but still will be pretty unique. Main hold up is what battery I'll be using, and how/where I'm going to mount it.

You have gained a subscriber in me, just based on the way you handled the fish and released them properly. Proves to me that you're a considerate sportsman and that comes first in my book. Come check out the Middle Fork River in Central Illinois, in Vermilion County. It is Illinois only "National Scenic River" and it has pretty good small mouth fishing itself. You have to wait for a time when it's been dry for a week or so, but it's a nice spot. Tight lines, from Illinois!

Thank you, Alma! I try to revive every fish so I can catch them again. It had rained a few days before I walked this river and the water was definitely higher than what I've seen before. Another youtuber fished it a week later and the water was way down and more of the river was accessible by foot.

If you want world class small mouth fishing, Door County Wi is THEE place to be. Fish Sturgeon bay and anything north of it. Bring a boat,canoe, or kayak. Sister Bay Islands are also amazing. I caught my PB smallie in door county. 7lbs 23 inches!

I think I know where you're at, fished that river once it's great for smallmouth but there are several other great rivers in Illinois just as good. I personally have lots of luck on the rock river
