Fishing the *NEW* Alabama Gulf State Park PIER

The Gulf Shores Alabama Gulf State Park Pier has been closed for a while. They did renovations, Hurricane Sally messed it up and broke a few pilings. The state of Alabama has done an excellent job trying to get it open for everyone. Today was the GRAND OPENING of the "NEW" Gulf State Park Pier. Obviously, there are many repairs that are going to be made, but this is a great accomplishment anyway. Fishing was great, we caught Sheepshead, Red Fish, Blue Fish, and Pompano. Whiting were also caught in the surf from the pier.

Why do you need an Alabama salt water license to fish the pier. The pier is beautiful. I live in Myrtle Beach and it took two years to rebuild our MBSP pier. I love to visit OB my son lived in Terry Cove before moving to Louisana .

Because the pier entry fee does NOT cover your fishing license. Wish it did though, trust me ha.

Thanks, and no, you have to purchase a Saltwater Fishing license separate from the entry fee. The good thing is, Alabama offers a pier fishing license, which is cheaper than the full saltwater license.
