I finally get how the meaning of life is 42. It's the 42 seconds it takes to watch this video.

I used to be fascinated with this show, little did I know it would be the blueprint for countless other similar shows in the post broadcast/cable era. It really should be more appreciated.

0:17 This young Japanese woman is Kazu Makino and, according to the end credits and the IMDb, she provided vocals to the soundtrack; she's likely seen also at 0:12. A couple of years later Kazu Makino founded noise rock band Blonde Redhead with Italian twin brothers Amedeo and Simone Pace. They still record and tour after more than thirty years. I once read a Facebook post by Kazu Makino saying that she met John Lurie in Japan. Judging from the tone of that post I had the feeling that they were in a relationship and he brought her to New York where she later met the Pace brothers. This TV series is produced by a Japanese broadcaster by the way.

Yeah, at one stage you could find all 6 episodes on here. I guess Criterion were losing DVD sales or something.

They are still up: simply type "Fishing With John Episode..." and whichever episode number you want to see, and it will pop up. Also, try using the name of the guest (ex. Willem Dafoe), that seems to work as well.
