I'm not a big spoon fishing guy nor a Bass guy. I like the cast masters and also the Mepps Syclops and noticed some of the Syclops knock offs had rings on them but the Mepps didn't so was wondering whether to put a ring on even though I use snaps. So found this video and I couldn't shut it off lolol watched the whole thing GREAT video!! That semi-slack on the way down tip just alone was well worth it. I always had complete slack and wondered why I rarely ever catch fish with spoons.Thanks a bunch!! 😍

I catch big flatheads on jigging spoons every year in late fall and winter. I put 4X saltwater hooks on mine. I got tired of getting bent out. Most are between 20 and 30 lbs. My biggest is 40.

@jamesbarron12023 жыл бұрын
@@jamesh7469 I’ve caught blues on spoons when they’re gorging on Shad schools in late fall but not nearly as much as flatheads and blues are way more abundant on my home lake. I’d estimate 200 blues for every flathead. Your much better off using Shad for blues. I catch more flatheads on spoons than I do on bait. They’re aggressive predators like a bass.

I would love to see a Rod Buyers Guide video that shows us a rod length/power/action recommendation and tells us what techniques you can use for each. Like me for example, if I wanted to buy 5 baitcasters and 2 spinning rods to cover every technique, what would you recommend? Budget, medium and high end examples would be great. I'd probably spend more to have say a 6'10" Expride and a 7'2" MH Expride, but go budget for a frogging/flippin' rod.
@masonyancy4 жыл бұрын
Why don’t you have 5 rods for 5 baitcasters? Seems redundant having to take the reel off and line to put on another reel.
@taddbednar36414 жыл бұрын
@@masonyancy is this a serious response? Or is this a normal question from a 4th grade level reading comprehension semi functional human? Let me spell it out for you.... I have seven rods, and seven reels. 5 baitcasters, (rods and reels) and two spinning (rods and reels). There are many times in life where people should just shut up and mind their own business before they put their foot in their mouth. This was one of them. Shut up dummy.

I'm sitting here trying to remember if I've ever even caught a bass on a spoon. I've caught white perch, crappie, sunfish of all kinds, striper, catfish, and saltwater species of all kinds on spoons, from really big 8 inch spoons, to the little itty bitty Johnson spoons like you get in a 3 pack at wal mart. I've thrown em quite a bit for bass but never had any luck I can think of over the years. I know if you know how to do it , its alot more effective. I just don't know how to. I have found schools of bass on my lake and dropped down to em, with all sizes, shapes, colors, and used barely flip flopping it on the bottom, to jacking the spoon with one hand on butt of rod. One on the reel. I think I miss alot of bites with spoon unless I'm just working it really really slow with braid to a leader. I can't feel anything much unless I'm using braid to fluro leader specifically bot mono. I'm going to play with them alot more this winter.

Do you find the swivel directly on the spoon gives better action than a swivel a couple feet above the spoon with leader direct tied to spoon? I'm usually using my jigging spoons on braid to leader so I guess with fluoro the way you do it is less knots to worry about.
