Fantastic tutorial! My 50 year-old 308 was locked up pretty tight. I leaned on these three sessions to tear down, clean, and reassemble. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the service tutorial! My dad recently handed his 308 down to me (which he's had for as long as I can remember). With this service I'll get many more happy years of service out of it!!

Watched all 3 parts. Amazing lil' series. Thank you. My late '80s Mitchell 308 runs like brand new after 12 years of being stored. Thank you, again!

There are not many reels that have passed from father to son or even grandson , a quality built reel that looks good and performs well .

I have four 308s. Two work well, the others I picked up for parts at a swap meet a few years back. The one I usually use, finally started to have problems and I took it apart to see what needed to be done. The reverse dog spring came out with the main gear and I wasn't sure how to put it back in once cleaned. There is a second small hole in the dog that looks like it should receive the tip of the spring, but it didn't fit. I found your video and saw that the spring tip catches the edge of the dog. Thank you for your generosity in sharing this video.

Man this series was great and I don’t even own a Mitchell reel. It’s amazing to see the progression of technology!

Wallace, thanks for creating these videos. I just recently retired and pulled out my dad's old 308 and my old 308. I think his was from the 60's and mine was from about 1970. Well, they are both serviced now and I'm going fish with them. I've still got his old ultralight spinning rod to put his reel on. Thanks again!! I think there are a couple of 300s upstairs for me to work on next.

How nice of you to offer but I have too much stuff already. Find a kid and give him the reel, maybe take him fishing, he'll never forget you and that day. Cheers, Wallace

Wow great video. I have a 308 just like the one in the video. The bail actuator spring has came loose. The one inside reel. The one you didn't remove. The screw came loose. I cant fig out how it goes together. A clear pic would help. Thanks

It would be nice to see how the anti reverse spring sets in place. The reel was so gunked off the spring was off.. So I dont have reference to how it sits..

I have 3 Mitchell Cap 304 reels and 2 of them need to be cleaned and lubed. Would be great if you did a video for 304.

This series is great, I am having a problem with the dog and dog spring part though. Are there any diagrams or images that can show me how to put these pieces back together? I was able to do it once, but can't recall how to do it and the video doesn't show much in terms of how it's supposed to look afterward. Thanks!

I just bought a Mitchell 308 'Prince' with a spare deep spool in very good condition from the local carboot sale for £5.00 I'm very happy with it!, I saw the handle and thought MITCHELL! but then thought it was a copy as it was such a small reel!!! Serial # is 581260, no letters but has 'FRANCE' on the sole.. Anyone know how to date these??

Hello, I just serviced my 308 and all went well. Everything works as it should. The one thing I notice is it used to click when in anti-reverse mode. Now, there is no clicking sounds. Do you know what I did to cause that? Thanks.

I just bought a 308a on auction. The rotating head looks like new, but the screw on the end of the bail opposite the trip mechanism is broken, and the pivot eye on the end of the bail wire is missing. A local shop says I have to buy a replacement rotor head, but the reel looks so pretty otherwise, I'd like to salvage the original. Is it possible to drill into the screw and pull the old screw with an "easy-out"?
