Absolutely agree with uping the minimum. There is no need to take 27 cm flathead, there is very little meat on such a fish. I think 30-35 is a much more appropriate minimum

Great video and so enjoy using those flathead luires I agree with you about Bag and size limits Have a look at our NSW SIZE and bag limits Othere wise overfishing and halling is going to eventually be all our own undoing then its too late 👌

Thanks Ricky, yeah id love to start chasing cod aswell. Within 2 hours of Melb cod are only starting to grow traction. I caught some at melton Res this year. I really need to travel up to the Murray and put some hours into it. Hope to cover that some time soon.

lots of great tips there. just wondering though what do flathead look like on the sounder since they are lying on the bottom? Are there bait fish above them?
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
You dont really tend to mark up flathead in traditional mode as they hold the bottom tightly. I more look for bait in the area, and cover ground and mark waypoints and that seems to do really well for them

Always good to see you out on the Kayak. Did you retire your electric motor?

Thanks !! Much appreciated. Nah I've temporarily put the electric motor away as I really need the exercise. The peddles help keep me in shape and I'm not getting any younger.

Great video and love the tips and info provided. Now it it is Winter, guessing the Flatties are away on winter holidays: when do you recommend is best time to head back out to find some Flatties?
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
The flatties have been really funny this year, usually locally they fire between Jan and April this year they fired between Feb to June and just started to go a bit quiet now.

Crazy session mate, I can't believe those things works so well and how many double hook ups you managed to get just slowly drifting 😂. How far do you go out in your yak? Too spooky for me haha
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
Thanks Wilson, yeah I was surprised too they worked great. Usually I go out about a kilometre to about 4-6 meters deep. Haven't had to many nasty encounters a couple of shark encounters out of hundreds of trips.

Hey Alan you probably won’t respond but what’s ur thought on going the flat edge 60. You get 8 in a pack and more colour options because in the 80s most are sold out except the pink berry and glow?
@fishingmad Жыл бұрын
I try to respond to all the messages, so always feel free to leave a comment. Honestly I haven't used the FlatEdge 60's yet. I was told the 80s will be back in stock in about a week. The 60s should also work fine. I just find in areas with small flathead and pinkies that I like the slightly bigger profile plastics to try and avoid some of the smaller pest fish. Mind you I caught my biggest snapper on a 6cm soft plastics so anything's possible
@Fishingguy11155 Жыл бұрын
Yep okay thanks for responding I’m just starting to get back to fishing again and I love ur content. I bought some 80s anyway so we will see what happens.

Not a good way to do things, the 1s that are just size are the best 1s to keep, they have the best flavour and its the most sustainable way of fishing them, anything over 45-50cm is female breeders. Should only keep between legal and 40cm
@brycejarrett2324 Жыл бұрын
Don’t they have to be 40 to keep now?
