Never tried the wacky topwater! Bought an Ozark Trail baitcaster to keep at work since we have a 30acre private lake on campus. The reel was trash after a few uses but the rod is decent and holding up well. Bought a Piscifun reel for dirt cheap and it’s not a bad combo. You can tell it’s not a “$200 Shimano” but it catches and has held up well. You should definitely do a Zebco challenge at some point. My kiddo just caught a 3 pounder on a 3’ Zebco and crappie underspin today!😂

Seems like the only way you're going to catch a big bass in that pond is to cull out the little bass. Largemouth grow at a rate of 10:1 food to body mass ratio. To put this in perspective, beef is 6:1 while pork is 3:1 and chicken is about the same as catfish with just shy of a 2:1. This means bass need a ton of food to get big. If the pond is loaded with dinks, you'll see a decline in average weight until the entire pond population becomes extinct. This appears to be the early signs of a dying pond. Depending on the pond's size, it is very likely that you'd need to cull out 10-20 bass a week (2# and under), for two years, before you'd even begin to see three to four pounders. Most pond owners won't do this and then wonder why their pind is collapsing.

Keep all the fish from say the next 4-5 trips, fillet, and freeze them. Then do a fish fry for everyone to show it is okay to eat bass, it is tasty, and that sportsmen have a respect for nature by using what we take.

My roda we're stolen a few weeks ago and I actually did a 22 dollar Walmart challenge. Got an ozark spinning rod a pack of googan baits. Some weighted hooks a spool of cheap 12 pound test a couple dollar spinnerbait and two packs of yum dingers and still had enough left for a soda at mcds on the weight home.
