Use day old donuts from local donuts shops ( if the police haven't eaten them all) , they are thrown out anyway. Or clean out your car if you have small kids or teenagers after they have been to McDonald's. Fries work the best , even leftover's from last nights supper , but no meats ....it attracts turtles like crazy....👍 👍 🇨🇦

Dry Oatmeal and corn meal mixed together with a bit of whole corn in a lemon or lime mesh bag works like a chum bag in the trap. Especially since the corn meal is small and the Oatmeal won't just melt away. The mix will bring in all sorts of minnows and other baits to trap the larger fish.

That’s a really cool trap! Over the last 40yrs when using these materials for building cages or fence I have a method you might be interested in trying that should save you a few steps and make your connections a bit sturdier. When making your 11” cut by eliminating the center square, just cut the center square right down the middle leaving 1/2 inch tabs on each 11” piece. Then when assembling it, you simply bend each 1/2” tab over and through the adjoining piece. It basically does the same as hog rings but tighter. You can also alternate which side of the adjoining wire you wrap around so the panel can’t slide back & forth. You are also eliminating one of your cutting steps with the cutting wheel. You don’t need to wrap every 1/2” tab. Wrap as many as yo think you need for a good fit(every 3rd or 4th would be similar # as you had hog ties). I think the occasional zip ties is a great idea to secure it up. I never considered that. Love your videos. I’m no engineer so this is the first time I’ve left a suggestion. 😂. Thanks for all the great content. Really enjoy all of it! “Just sayin’ “! 😃👍🏼

That’s awesome video . I been building fish , coon , crawfish, rabbit, bird ,hog, coyote traps since i was a kid . I used tie wire for years and just started using j clips a few years back . I still got my first traps I made . I used hog rings on a couple before but didn’t like them . I like to tie a couple of milk jugs on fish traps to float them a different depths for shiners . This past summer i built 8 fish traps just like the $120pic ya showed . A guy brought that same pic to me and ask if I build it for him and I did he seen it and wanted 7 more for his 135 acre family private pond . Now I got a new place to fish too.

For where the trap is tied on.. I might try making a V shaped bridle, Attached to the two front bottom corners. It can be made with coat hanger wire or heavy gauge fencing wire or even rope!. Reason being as a retired Western Rock Lobster Fisherman in Western Australia, this is how we attach the ropes to the Lobster Pot. It will help greatly in avoiding getting snagged up on rocks or branches as you're retrieving it. This is such a fantastic design mate!! Absolutely love it... You could use this for overnight sets for Crawdad's or Crawfish I think you guys call them? We call them Yabbies and their much larger relatives are called Marron. Both are freshwater critters with Marron growing to the size of North American Ocean Lobster. Awesome video buddy thank you very much! CP - Western Australia Midwest Coast.

Bailing wire works great too for attaching the panels to one another by weaving it through the squares of the adjoining panels. More rigid but a bit slower than the hog rings. Also I haven’t tried it but I wonder how plastic dipping or spraying a trap with flex seal would turn out in an effort to better prevent it from rusting similar to the expensive rubberized fish/crab traps.

Hey FNS I hate to keep bothering you but I just wanted to give you another tip on your perch holding box. We used them to keep pin perch for saltwater bait and when we made them square the perch would tear their noses up and die from infections. So we started making them round so they don’t get stuck in the corners. Hope this helps tight lines and full freezers 🎣🐟🤠 P.S. they are a lot easier to build👍
