@@Maria-k5v3nif you arent a seasoned yorgos or general weird movie fan, i would recommend waiting for vod or streaming. As someone who loves yorgos even i found this to be a flop. I dont think its worth taking the gamble of a full price movie ticket unless you are absolutely dying to see it. But def recommend if anyone is a lil curious for sure stream it or rent it on vod. But for most people i feel like it will be a total waste of a full price ticket.

Hi Joseph & Nick!👍🏼Thanks for the heads up and review.❤Joseph you're my favorite movie reviewer and always give the best descriptive details and Nick you're an expert on movie history details and actors names and characters.❤Watching the trailer numerous times and seeing the purple loud Dodge, it didn't make any sense. I had a feeling after watching the trailer the movie was going to be pretty off the wall, bizarre and twisted. Joseph, after listening to what you had to say, you're absolutely correct.🎆

I'm usually with you guys when you go against the grain but have to disagree on this one. Aside from also feeling that due to the fact that each segment had the same tone, it goes on a big too long, I really loved Kinds of Kindness. Yorgos was clearly in a playful mood when he wrote and directed it and I was happy to be along for the ride. I'd go a solid 4 out of 5.

I worked on this film - the script goes into slightly more detail regarding character thoughts, symbolism of items & setting, etc. I think a lot of Yorgos’ filmmaking leans into the mystique of it all - he wants you to analyze the films on your own & come up with your opinion on what it truly means. One can also look into various Greek mythos and see similar themes that are also within these three stories (similar - not exact). Hopefully people give it a shot & form their own opinion of the film, even with poor reviews. It certainly won’t be for everyone. I’m still looking forward to it though! Also the person who played Dr. Evans (the psychiatrist is story 2) is my friend - he’s actually 36. He’s older than Emma Stone. He does look to be in his 20s though!
@valuelight

How do you feel about the violence and sexual content in the film? Do you feel it served a deeper purpose, or do you feel it was just one of those shock tactics he used to grab the audience’s attention? Personally, I think the film is kind of fucked up and vile, like fundamentally vile. I saw it earlier today and have never left the theater so angry in my entire life. I may sound like a Karen but I’m a black dude in my early 20s who happened to have found some of his character writing, especially for his black characters, to be very poor.

It is a great movie! Yes You are right there are themes of myths and folks tales. Any detail is for a reason. There are even sore reference to Poor Thinks. In the first story Defoe was the "God" father and that what he is again! In all three stories there is the theme of pregnancy-kids and death...so many things you have to connect and think.

From my overly artistic interpretation, based only on your review and familiarity with a few of his other films, he seems to have a recurring motif about control. Almost all of his films are about control and it sounds like so are the vignettes in this film. "Kinds of Kindness" makes me think of love (different kinds of love), which I think this film explores, but specifically (as a play on words), pavlove (I think that's the through-line). Defoe's character might represent the controller/conditioner (or the bell in the Pavlove Experiments). I wonder if the vignettes satirize our conditioning to enjoy control, and sometimes enjoy thinking we have power in this type of system--because, ironically, it seems like that's what we're hungry for (if we can't get affection, appreciation, respect, acknowledgment, etc.). Also, I can see, how Defoe's character can represent different abstract concepts like capitalism (or other economic/political systems) in part 1 (like a broken racket, as in "dishonest scheme") don't know what his character was like in part 2, and religion/community in part 3. As someone else mentioned below in the comments, it sounds David Lynchian. Is that the vibe you guys got too? I think Emma Stone and the driving and dancing at the end sounds to me like mocking humanity's behavior toward technology. We have the power of life and death but behave so cavalier and recklessly that we end up doing more harm than good. All that being said, I agree. Even if there are interesting aspects to explore here, it doesn't mean it was done well...have to wait until I see it. But, regardless, the conversations you have in all your reviews always inspire me to watch the film. Thank you for your reviews!

I'm suprised the Matt Damon and Jesse Plemons comparisons aren't made more often. The two could play brothers. When I first saw Plemons (In Friday Night Lights?) for a second I thought it was Damon.
@jeremyslather
@jeremyslather 2 ай бұрын
The first story, everyone was being manipulated by Dafoe, everyone, even the wife and the barman, and every single person. He is god, literally. Plemons trying to escape is futile because everyone is in it. That's why he has to come back again to the father because there is no way out. You have "free will" but Lanthimos is literalizing the idea of "yeah free will, but you must do what i want" that god wants. Story 2 is intended to make us choose sides and cause cognitive dissonance. We the audience have to choose to believe the dog society is real or fake, and at the same time choose sides, the husband is right and the ending is happy, or the wife is just being beaten and mistreated so much she is justifying domestic v...lence and ends up unnalived. Story 3 is a critique to organized religion, you can be subject of a crime and still be blamed as "it's your fault and you will go to he!!" just like catholics do, and no matter if you literally find god for them, there is no redemption for you for being a victim. It's a sour critique of course. The dodge is just a chekovs gun we all thought as we were watching "she is going to have an accident if she keeps driving like that" and she does in the end. For me, it is critique of god, of love, and of organized religion. In all cases it's about devotion to each aspect. I liked it despite the length. For me it was a 4/5.

I liked this movie because there are a lot of weird details that make you think about and try to connect them. Like for example husband raping - before that he was trying to make Ema Stone to eat fish that is also forbidden in her cult. So his intention never clearly stated but you can deduct it from careful observation. The same happens with the rest of the movie including RMF storyline. Yes it's bizzare but also it does a research of the same topic in 3 different stories and gives some memorable moments in each.

Thanks for this now I definitely don’t want to see this movie. I had heard it had bad scenes that might make you sick.

The third story somehow felt like mockery of the Scientology sect 😂

I feel they should've focused on the first and third shorts and made them into two fully flushed out films or made a TV series on Hulu.

@@Thomas15 Desperately sucking the blood out of a person's wound like a hungry madman after blowing their finger off is rather cannibalistic. Even vampiric.

@SalveRegina8 I only just finished the film so will need to think about it but I felt it was reflective of a dog licking a wound of it's owner as a need for validation, affection, and submission. I thought the characters in the second story had extreme, animal like tendencies to show the lengths they would go to for affection etc. if that makes sense

Wow, thank you guys for this review!! I needed to listen this type of perspective on the film. I feel this way on Yorgos' dead pan moments not landing on me.

Finally saw the movie and came right over. They carried with this movie. Edit: desperate attempt at Tarantino-ism with all of the angles, characters and monologues and weird conversations
