Just found your channel, I love seeing inside these old mines, especially the inner workings that just haven't been seen before. I'd love to know what these miners would've thought about those bright flashlights we all take for granted. Just the excess light around is brighter than anything they had, working by candles. I grew up in a rural part of the state of Virginia, and when the power went out, as it frequently did in the fall and winter, all we had for light were these 19th century and early 20th century oil lamps, and an emergency flashlight from the 70's no one dared use for the fear of the wrath of Dad. I've also been to a few of the tourist caves in my area, where they tell you to stand still and they turn the lights out, ain't no dark like hole in the ground dark! I have real respect for the amount of light these men worked with, and the conditions must've been abysmal, a lot of these early mines had poor ventilation at best.

In my younger days I explores mines outside of Las Vegas NV. USA, and it was cool and everything, but, watching your videos and the way Ioan explains everything makes me wish he was with us at the time. Learning about the geology and the mine workings puts it on a whole different level. If I ever make it out your way, and my body is up up it, I would love to go with y'all, it would be a very memorable experience.

This is going to sound a little bit of a silly idea, but have you ever considered finding some small, bright LED lights that are waterproof, and strapping them to your toes for these wet mines? You'd obviously never get a visible image of anything in murky water but you may be able to see the light diminish sharply before you ram your toes into something solid.

@@mrlister2000 Having done a similar dig myself I know it takes a lot of effert to dig down as far as they did by hand, there is nothing to be gained by digging further and draining and as mentioned before it allows far more casual explorers to go in which puts the artefacts at risk, subtle or delicate things like 100+ year old boot prints are easily damaged and other items have been removed by souvenir collectors.
