Love this lens on my Canon R50. Super small and powerful combo! Personally 28mm is too wide for me on a full frame but having the APS-C sensor on the R50 the 1.6x crop gives me a full frame equivalent FOV of 44.8mm! Which for me is a dream! I love 40mm and I love 50mm on full frame so it’s nice to be able to sit in the middle of that FOV. Great review and awesome shots! Keep on shooting brother. Oh yeah, almost forgot! The “Control” mode switch function allowing you to half press shutter and turn focus ring for aperture control is so awesome! Being a Canon FD lens fanatic and film shooter it is very natural for me to turn that ring for aperture control!

This review is helpfully rational, and I really like what you said about the constraint of a single lens freeing you to be more in the moment while traveling. Thanks! 🙌

I''ve been doing street photography with my Canon R5 and 24-105mm. It works great, but I really wanted something lighter. I also realised I took all my best shots from the hip at 35 to 50mm. I searched for compact camera with good controls and RAW, and they all cost a bomb these days. Think $1000+. The solution was exactly this lens, and my wive's Canon R50 (which lands me on an ideal focal length when you consider the crop factor of the R50) . Super lightweight, and exactly what I needed.

Heck yes! Great solution. It’s a nice inconspicuous set up so Im sure you’re able to capture a lot of candid moments

I have often faced this dilemma: backpack and photographic equipment. we photographers travel to take photographs, and in addition to the drone, I often had to use my cell phone to avoid compromising the space in my backpack. but I always want my Canon r6 mkII and I used to pair it with the 35 f1.8 or the 50 f1.8. but now I will have to face this challenge too, I just purchased a 28mm pancake. it will be a good challenge, but photography is also this, adapting and trying new experiences.

I keep a clear filter on my RF28...easier to clean/wipe in the event of finger smudge ect.

EF 35mm F/2 IS is mine - for my Canon EOS 3 and 33 film SLRs. The IS is worth more than the 1.8 or 1.4 and at half the weight and size at least of those other lenses as well as nearly half on price too. Tamron has a 1.8VC but its bigger, and isnt as optically good from what i've seen. Plus canon AF with canon lenses is better since theres no micro focus adjustments on the film SLRs - I'd maybe take a 50mm 1.8 or 85 1.8 with me too

I like sigma 24mm f3.5 for travel. I can see everything and the half macro is nice to have. When I have space I take my 35mm 1.4 instead or the 24 3.5 and a 85 1.8. I wish for a lens like this one. 2.8 is nice to have.

I think about the 50mm 1.8 or the 28mm , what the winning choice only for travel and shoot myself and friends?
@JosephMartin5 ай бұрын
If you do mostly portraits, then go for the 50mm. If travel/architecture is your favorite, the 28mm is the way to go!

I’m hoping for a pancake RF 40mm. Dunno if that will happen in the near future.
@JosephMartin5 ай бұрын
That’d be great! For now, if that focal length would be perfect, you could get an APS-C sensor camera like the R10 which makes the 24mm an effective 38mm focal length.

can you vlog w this lens?
@JosephMartinСағат бұрын
You could but I wouldn’t recommend it- it’s a bit too tight. For a vlog I recommend a wide angle zoom like a 16-35mm on a full frame camera

Great video, I'm doing this challenge with the 35MM F1.8 + an RP. :D I also have the RF 70-200 F4, but that's more of a commitment to bring around.

Good luck! Im sure it will be fun. The 70-200 is an incredible lens but definitely requires at least a sling bag

Great review. I have a Canon R7 APSC camera and am deciding between this lens (RF 28mm F2.8 STM full-frame) and the RF-S 10-18mm F4.5-6.3 lens. The prices of both are around the same. Which one would you recommend?
@JosephMartin5 ай бұрын
Thanks! The choice between those lenses totally depends on what type of photography you’re doing. The 10-18 would be better if you want wide angle stuff for architecture/landscape photography, and the 28mm would be better for things like portraits etc. dont forget that the effective focal length for any lens on that camera will be 1.6x the lens’ focal length, so the 28mm will effectively be a 48.8mm lens. :)
