Looks like it would be a good thing but I'm rather sceptical about the seal on the bottom of the bottle.... Maybe by using a square shaped more ridgid plastic bottle or even a piece of pvc pipe with a baffle would be something i would be able to sleep better at nights with however, the idea is great!!👍🏻

it is enough that the filter is clogged with impurities and the water will overflow, the water must always be sucked from the filter into the aquarium, not vice versa

Some points I noted: 1. Since the sump sits outside the tank itself, we can have a larger sump so to support a larger bioload 2. The beneficial bacteria can survive couple of hours of power cuts since the water level is maintained in the sump even if the air lift has stopped 3. Minimal equipment in the tank itself, except for the inlet pipe, making more room for fish 4. Since sump is external, cleaning it is easier and simpler 5. Since we use a simple air stone based lift, there are no electrical equipment in direct contact with water hence no electrocution risk in event of a short circuit. 6. Since the inlet and outlet systems are decoupled from each other, dismantling is a breeze. Also we can simply redirect the inlet into the tank while cleaning the sump or into an external container during water changes.

solution to overflow risk would be inserting the air in the output pipe, letting air push the water up and out, so pressure will suck through the intake to keep the filter level with aquarium

It is a good idea but you intersperse kapas filter between the different stones and it gets clogged very easily causing more maintenance. It is better to separate them with a mosquito net, for example, and put the kapas filter before the stones

Para los que dicen lo de oa esponja que se va a obstruir ... Tienen que tener en cuenta , que no lo vas a dejar meses sin limpiar , el filtro se limpia cada semana y la pecera es pequeña , no tendrias problemas , si te da hueva y eres de los que no atiendes las peceras y tienes ese miedo ponlo como filtro "interno" y si se tapa no tendrss problemas de "inundaciones" como dicen unos ... I think I'm going to agree that this is a bad design. I'm not even going to get into the pipe connections. It's going to work, yes. But down the road, things are going to clog and water is going on the floor. An emergency outflow would probably fix the issue but then you have the issue of fixing the issue as it's going to be difficult.

Use polyester instead of cotton. Cotton falls apart quickly! You should rinse the polyester every few days. It's better to replace it a few times per month

Simply drill a small hole in the pipe inside the aquarium just below the surface of the water. By the way, this filter also works in the aquarium itself. Instead of the bottle, I would use a plexiglass pane and thus increase the filter area considerably
