I agree with Molly, I love it when a character has so much written about them. A: It's less likely for the character's personality to get murdered through Flanderization in fan media, and B: It gives them more nuance and a better look into what drives them. For example, the Chinese fandom hates the hell out of Scaramouche/Wanderer, but to me he's my severely-traumatized-by-abandonment pookie and nothing no one does can stop me from loving him.

I do recall that a lot of Chinese female fans really liked Scara but it’s the male fans that went after him, perceiving him as an “enemy” and a rival. Hence, the cat killing incidence. I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of Chinese female fans hold a similar sentiment to you. Problem is that it’s quite common that Asian communities in these games can go from 0 to 100 wrt feeling insulted. For example, the Bunny suit incident in Honkai 3rd Impact ended up with a fan going after Hoyoverse staff with intent to harm and even kill. It’s perceived as personal sleights, similar to K-Pop and Idol fans. Granted, fandoms in these west do this too, but how it happens and when need to be considered. There is a lot of nuance (the political climate, social norms, gender politics and other factors) that goes into this that one comment on KZbin can do. Mujin does a good deep dive on the Bunny Suit incident that helps explain the context and Moon Channel also does a good explanation on the Gender Politics of Gacha Games. Long story short, humans are really messy creatures and we need to talk about how we perceive the people around us, the games we play and that not everything happens in a vacuum

Sunday honestly is the way to do a an antagonist that honestly could have been the protagonist. You can genuinely see he cares, but the weight of everyone’s suffering and his desire to fix it solely becomes a nuclear option. He was so invested in saving his sister and saving others, he never even considered saving himself or what the sacrifice he would have made to become a God would do to him. He desperately wants to do good, but didn’t understand how to put faith in other people to feel the same. I’m really hoping he stays a while on the train so he can be extended family for the astral express, see how everyone else is combating their suffering or working together.
