I got one last year good for twisted knotted wood at 71 yrs old it can be a workout. It is awesome. He does it right just lift it back over your head and let it fall down onto the log.

I have had an x27 for about 5 years, was skeptical but love it. On larger rounds, 18 inch dia. and larger, I split from the outside and work my way to the center. I may look for IsoCore Maul. This looks like it handles the bigger rounds.

Under rated advice. Lugging 8 lbs would tire most of us out fast, X27 is the gold standard I hope as I will have to use one for multiple days to get ahead of wood needed

I’ll let you know what I think about this one and the old school days of busting wood is what I enjoy doing to stay in shape with what I have now is my Dads so keep up the good work

I always wonder whether the extra weight is worth it. I'm sure you get more speed with X27 and can keep on chopping for longer. As we know, 2x the speed is 4x the impact energy. 2x the weight is 2x the impact energy.

The best form of exercise imo

I have a x27 and cut and split 2 cords of maple and oak (3 - 90 foot trees) in a week, split by hand. I probably lost a pound that week. Still feel sore in some areas. Already sold the wood.

Nice splitting. I'm still learning to recognize wood by the grain and bark..is that birch?

Thanks for the nice compliment and for watching my video. This was a maple tree I was spitting up.

Nice work with the maul. Have you tried the x27 splitting axe? It works great too
@j.f.outdoors84602 жыл бұрын
I have that axe too. It does a nice job but not as efficiently as the maul on the larger rounds, plus you can feel more vibration through the handle. Pros and cons to each. It does weigh a lot less so less fatigue using the axe.

try the chain and bungi cord around the logs before you start splitting, wont have to keep picking them up. Other then that, maul looks to make ez work of that.

X27 fiskars will split any wood that any maul will split
@j.f.outdoors84602 жыл бұрын
Sure you can. 👍You could also split any of it with an x7. They are all great tools but are made for different jobs. I own all of them and the x27 gets the least attention. Thank you for watching and sharing your opinion. Have a blessed day.

I would agree, I have both and my maul hardly ever gets used as I find there maybe a a few chunks that the maul might split that the x27 can’t but if they are that tough I just cut them with the saw. I am splitting a lot of chunks that are 20 plus inches.

They make a 6lb splitting maul now as well. Would be interesting to see how it works. That 8lb was way overkill for what you were splitting tho.

Can I hit a wedge with the other side of the maul?

Can an old man use this axe, or is it too heavy? thanks
@j.f.outdoors84602 жыл бұрын
thank you for your question. I would have to say depends on what shape the old man is in. This axe is very well balanced and with the isocore handle it greatly reduces vibration thus cutting down on fatigue. I have the Fiskars x27 too. It is much lighter and does a good job splitting wood that is smaller. It has a good amount more vibration than the maul. I seem to always gravitate towards the maul. It is the better tool for me. If you tend to get tired quickly using a heavier splitter, I would recommend maybe using the 8lb maul to split them down to a smaller size them using the x27 to split to the final size of your liking.

im 5'5 185lb fairly stout not fat and i have the isocore and it was a bit much for me and the handle a bit long i like the husqvarna s2800 splitting axe and i just picked up a husqvarna splitting maul i like it better than the fiskars maul,it swings better for me,has a better feeling when it hits than the isocore,its a little lighter and the handle is a little shorter.

Do you recommend the 6lb or 8lb maul for 10” rounds?
@j.f.outdoors84602 жыл бұрын
I have not had the privilege in trying the 6lb maul. I know the 8lb works great. I have heard good things about the 6lb though. If I ever get one I will do a video on it, for sure. Thanks for watching.

Splitting the first load of the year sure wears a guy out,but after 3 or 4 your ready to split someones wig if they dare challenge your new found strength.
