You’ve probably heard this 1000 times, but (a) I *love* the Fiskars X27, *BUT* (b) the Husqvarna S2800, IMO, is even *better*. Not only does it split better (esp for a 28” handle), but it’s built stronger and the head holds up better, even when I mess up and hit something I’m not supposed to. And the composite handle on the S2800 feels better for me. Just my $0.02 - love your channel!

Chris, i have an X-27 and a X-7 hatchet along with a 28 inch hookeroon and a 17 inch hookeroon. the 28 inch broke about 2 inches off the tip. i contacted FISKARS and they said take a picture and send it to them. a month later, i had a new hookeroon. loved the video you and Tony did on FISKARS months ago. didn't know they had a chopping ax. thanks for sharing.

I used a cheap harbor freight maul and Axe last year to split all of my firewood. After seeing the x27 I bought one this year and wow the difference. Then I bought a log splitter so now I barely use the x27 but when I do it's so much easier then a maul.

I started with wood handles and was skeptical on the Fiskars as I have used composite handles because and didn't like them. I now have 3 of the Fiskars 2axes and 1 maul) and they feel equivalent to the wood handles. At least to me anyway. 😉👍

I have been using the x27 for a few years now and really like it. This past weekend though I tried the Milwaukee 26” splitting axe and I have to say I like the Milwaukee better. It has a little more mass and seems to help with knotty pieces. Recommended giving one a try if you get the chance. As you said, more is the answer. Looking up the chopping axe now...

I use the back of the maul as a sledge hammer.. I also get more leverage and power stroke out of a long handle. Yes i prefer a longer handle over the shorter ones.. The shorter ones are for shorter people! Longer ones for taller people! If you going to split wood with a maul. You want one that is comfortable to YOU! IT can be to long or short, heavy or to light... Making it? Wear you out Much faster, than normal! I AGREE! SWEAT! SWEAT! SWEAT! Give you body a good work out EVERY DAY! I get a good work out, from chopping wood, into firewood... I' am 72 years old. Can out work any 25 year old
@InTheWoodyard3 күн бұрын
That is awesome I am sure you are awesome for your age....but I doubt you could out work any and or all 25 year olds....have you seen MMA fighters or professional fire jumpers or iron man competitors who race swim 5 miles then bike race 120 miles and then run a marathon 26.2 miles and a good time is finishing in 17 hours??? And how about the Ultra adventure marathoners who run mountain ranges for 200-300 miles without stopping and usually finish in 3 days? I am sure you are good but long ago I realized there is always someone better at everything than me.

I listed the 2 1/2lb one as the X21. It (yours), and mine are the black handled versions of the X21; which isn't marketed in the States. Amazon has the actual X21 for sale @73.44. It used to be 121.00; but the price has taken a big drop for some reason.

The thing that scares me with the wooden handled maul is that if you take a big swing and the head breaks the energy of the hit sometimes sends the head tumbling back at you had it happen once no major injuries or anything but made me leery of wooden handles maybe just my experience though 🤷🏻♂️

I might limb with it, but no way I'm cross cut chopping wood with that. They are a great splitter for easier rounds tho. For the big rounds I like the 6 lb maul they make. It won't wear you out as much as heavier ones and it gives you that extra mass compared to the splitting axes which really helps to bust up the big stuff.

I am a blacksmith, and I love fiskars hammers. I wear the handles out in about 12 months. (I wear the soft grip down) I tried replacing the fiskars handle with a wood handle, it was crap. Ruined the hammer. So I just buy a new hammer every 12 months or so. They are cheap as chips anyway, 50 bucks a throw in our local hardware stores.

Hey, could you please tell me what you're recommend for going at some good sized in ground stumps, these are of green solid birch, probably the splitting axe is best for chipping away at the things, or is there something better suited for the job? Thanks!

Any axe along with determination can do it ...but a stump grinder would be easier and faster!
@TRguy64Ай бұрын
@@InTheWoodyard I've grunted out tons of stumps by hand, a regular axe gets stuck all too often, I think one of these splitting axes might be a good choice, I need an axe anyways in case my electric log splitter goes kaput.

Hard to beat the blade heavy X27 for splitting, for a wedge banger I prefer straight handled pole heavy of the rafting pattern. IMHO hard to design a hand tool that excels at both(jack of all trades master of none) when both tasks require the head to be weighted to the opposite side of the handle.
