Fit For a King and Wolves at the Gate have the best lyrics for fighting sin IMO. "We've given power to the things that only wish to hold us down. It's time to wreak havoc!". Worship music is great and all, but this stuff is so much better for taking action and living out the word (again, in my opinion).
@smartalec2410 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. I feel like contemporary worship (sorry I don't know of a better term) that is played in most churches does do its job, but there isn't really anything about what we should do or how to solve issues. That's why Christian rock/metal is my thing. The aggressive emotion of the music fused with deep powerful messages is a match made in Heaven.

More bands that have great sin fighting lyrics are Demon Hunter, Becoming the Archetype, Impending Doom, Theocracy, For Today, and In the Midst of Lions. I listen to these bands religiously( also the two you mentioned), no pun intended, and are a changed man because of them lqtm. I had an original post that had snippets of their great lyrics.. But, my computer restarted the page... and deleted the comment. Ah well, if you haven't listened to all of these bands I would suggest to do so~
@aaronbusch199310 жыл бұрын
Aaron Knee For sure. Demon Hunter and BtA were my first "Christian metal" bands that I listened to back in middle school. And I agree that ID, Thoecracy, For Today, and ItMoL all have good lyrics. But I just can't quite get into those bands as much (personal taste I suppose).
@aaronknee121810 жыл бұрын
Aaron Busch Yeah, it almost always comes down to preferences. But, idiosyncransy is good! We should to together, not the same lqtm. And Demon Hunter's I am a Stone will forever be my eulogy to my past self and the vices... It reminds me of myself so much, I was thinking of having it apart of my tattoo design, just don't know what. Ah well, at least we can agree on the one thing that matters. God is not only here, but working through us as we traverse through the world. And I indubitably agree with your statement of bands like these are better for us to stand in the faith and act lqtm. I would definitely go to a church if they played any of these bands songs then dissected them in the sermon every Sunday lqtm.

@PLURIC10 жыл бұрын
I've had some discourse with this band over Facebook and while I really love their music, the theology behind their lyrics needs work. No Christian, no person who belongs to Christ can ever be a "slave to nothing". FFAK is right to say believers are to rise and fight the ongoing battle against sin and principalities of darkness. But they are wrong to say that we are slaves to nothing. The Apostle Paul says this of Christians: "...thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness." (Romans 6:17-18 ESV) Not only this, but Peter calls Christians "slaves [Grk: doulos; bondservant/slave] of God" (1 Peter 2:16) Christians are not slaves to nothing. Nobody is a slave to nothing. We're either slaves to sin or slaves to God. That is the picture painted throughout the whole Bible.
@gabrielduncan151010 жыл бұрын
It would be referring to life before repentance and faith. We are slaves to sin before repentance and faith. We however are not slaves to God he gave us the freedom to choose our own path. He doesn't make me go to church on Sundays he doesn't make me read the bible. Those are things I choose to do. And when you go bashing other Christians for not having the same view on theology as you, how is that gonna look for a 17 year old kid looking for answers? As Christians we should be bringing each other closer not publicly pointing out what is wrong with one another.
@PLURIC10 жыл бұрын
Gabriel Duncan My friend, I would agree with you that after God has redeemed us we are no longer slaves to sin. As Christians, we do indeed now have a choice as to whether we will sin or serve God. You're right. God doesn't force us to go to church on Sundays, or take His Word seriously, or to love our neighbors - though He commands that we do this (and failing to do so is sin and grieves the Spirit). I sincerely don't mean to bash Fit For A King personally. Like I said, I really like their music. I've been a fan since Descendants. There's a difference between bashing other Christians for not having the same theology as oneself, and offering a criticism based on Scripture. My hope was to illustrate that while parts of this song are great, other parts are in direct opposition with what the Bible teaches. When we were set free from sin, we were not simply set free to be independent and to live our lives as we see fit. According to God's Word (as I illustrated from my original comment), Christians are not and cannot ever be slaves to nothing. We have become slaves of God. We were saved, created in Christ Jesus _for_ good works (Eph. 2:10). Our being slaves of God does not negate our adoption as the children of God (when we were once His enemies). That also does not mean that as His slaves, we can no longer sin. But it does mean that we are now called to serve Him and, out of gratitude, do the will of our Savior. I appreciate your concern for the youth, who are growing up in an increasingly chaotic, immoral, and vehemently anti-God anti-truth world. Many of them are looking for answers, especially those of us like myself who came from broken homes. Both of us should be concerned for the youth, and you're right - division in the Church does not help us share the good news of Christ to them or care for their souls. However, neither does compromise on what God's Word clearly teaches help the youth when we attempt to answer life's difficult questions from Scripture. I can understand if we're talking about the nature of the Millennial Kingdom in Revelation 20 - we can all agree that that area of discussion, while important, shouldn't be a point of _ardent_ dissension between Christians. But when the Scriptures tell us explicitly and undeniably that Christians are slaves to God and to righteousness, and a band comes along and says that we're slaves to nothing, we should be concerned about that. We should be about the business of glorifying God by rightly understanding and proclaiming His Word. I hope is you see where I'm coming from. I don't want to be mean-spirited towards FFAK nor its fans, but this ain't right. Cheers!
@gabrielduncan151010 жыл бұрын
I understand where you're getting at but I think you're misunderstanding the slang. He isn't saying he's a slave to nothing. It would be more along the lines of "I'm not a slave"
@_NotEnoughMana10 жыл бұрын
Noah, while i appreciate the knowledge behind your reasoning I feel that you're over analysing the lyrics. 'Slave to nothing' is talking primarily about addiction. No one, not even followers of Christ are perfect except for Christ himself. Even the most fearful christian stumbles at some point of time or another because we are human and are not perfect (look up the lyrics for "a greater sense of self" from this same album because it talks about this in detail.). The reason bands like Fit for a King, Oh sleeper, August burns red and the likes connect with the masses is that it points out that we still have hope in god and that our obstacles that the devil puts before us "will burn in hell" and that's what this song is trying to portray - this song is all about aggressiveness and the hate that stems from the devil and all is doings and that's why the line says "Hell awaits the king of lies. The perverse will fall, the beast will burn alive. King of lies. I HOPE YOU ROT." So sit back, and take the lyrics from a point of a broken human being who is reaching out/still reaching out for some hope in a dark world. If you want more theology behind music like this, i'd suggest listening to the new wolves at the gate album. God bless!
@PLURIC10 жыл бұрын
Allan Madhuram You're totally right about us no longer being slaves to sin. Its also true that we still sin as Christians. None of us are perfect (I can attest to that in my own life!). I really like the statements FFAK puts forward against Satan, the enemy of our souls. And I generally like the overarching message of the song. But I don't think I'm overanalyzing the lyrics. Its one thing to say we're no longer slaves to unrighteousness. Its quite a different thing to say we're slaves to _nothing_. That statement isn't true, biblically speaking. That's why I take issue.

i did the same thing to my drums a month ago when i figured out all i could do was retire by being forced to it. my guitar stuff survived. but in the context to this song and meaning, people need to go to these shows, there is a true connection between the people and the band members. i touched matties hand after croud surfing and this has got be the 3rd or 4th song i've come up on and its the first time every time and tons of things in the lyrics are as if i've spoken to these guys and i've never opened my mouth to speak, yet seen it in my head and here it is. example i saw matty covered in blood days after the concert. and then the video got released.i spoke to Yawhey a week ago telling him that "christians" are destroying Christians and here it is. there's a strong spiritual connection from everyone in the band to the people they touch. thank you guy so much and yawhey bless you.

My lyrical interpretation, hope you all can finish the two parts I had a little bit of trouble with: We're destroying your crown And your walls are crashing down We give in Humanity has put evil on a throne Destroying the walls we built to contain our hearts by keeping us alive We've given power to the things that only wish to hold us down It's time to re-[?] I can't even remember the time When I could stand up for myself I won't give in, I'll never surrender No more fear, only fight I'm a slave, I'm a slave to nothing Slave to nothing We're destroying your crown (get up, get up) And your walls are crashing down (get up, get up) We give in Rise Now is our time to rise above the fire You've cast down on us I hear the words that you say but at the end of the day You'll never see me surrender [next stanza is uncertain] I've picked up, reclaimed, The spread of sin and shames Preaching from the darkest darkness falls between the earth Devouring souls of the ones who just escaped the eyes Run into eternal grace and lead the one who's still alive Hell awaits the king of lies The perverse will fall The beast will murder life (life) I hope you rot We're destroying your crown (get up, get up) And your walls are crashing down (get up, get up) I'm a slave, I'm a slave to nothing

I think he is saying "wreak havoc" and not "we give in" because he says "it's time to wreak havoc". I think the old guy represents the devil and them running him over means they have destroyed his power against him. When we are in Christ, we are not a slave to the devil. Just like how they were in the truck, not a slave to the old guy. That's my 2 cents lol
the breakdown at 1:40 I feel is perfect because the song changes after that and its a perfect transition from fast and aggressive to heavy and ferocious.

stefan82010 dont just use attila as being those things considering there are other bands out there that are exactly the same, Deez Nuts, for instance, or old Dr. Acula, hell some Emmure songs even.

I'm loving the Sinead O'Connor - Nothing Compares 2U in the suggestions! I will definitely be blasting that out after this.

Atheists shut up, christians shut up. Just enjoy the music! Stop turning everything into a theological battle. For fucks sake.

Nobody in this comment section is arguing about anything beyond lyrics and song meaning. Even those "arguments" are totally civilized. Sometimes "everybody shut up" can help but this is a pretty sane group of people. Bravo.

Matties part made me cringe. So baddd
@justinweisel445110 жыл бұрын
Bryan Rose yea I would definitely agree. Mattie has ruined this song and Tourniquets song. His band is so boring anymore too.

Your point is invalid, mostly because it's an opinion and no one asked for it, there was nothing off about his vocals in fact they worked well on this song with this band.
@justinweisel445110 жыл бұрын
He sounds better on this song because Mattie and FFAK have a similar style/sound. It's generic core music.

Funny how a single comment can agitate so many, how dare I have an opinion haha.. Learn that not everyone is gonna like what you like buddy and to not let what others say worry you so much and everything will be just fine. Did I say you couldn't be a fan of this? No

Bryan Rose lol its simple, there are people who get really offended and there are those who think rationally. im a mix of both haha but i usually dont like this kind of metal but ffak is the only exception. I genuinely love the verse riffs. so there is that part of me that says "man eff this and eff you" but what would be the point in that? I wouldn't gain anything. All i would show is that I am just another blind fan even if that id the case. in my eyes this song is ffak's best song so far. this makes all there songs off of their previous albums look like childs play. what kind of bands do you like?

We're destroying your crown and your walls are crashing down. Wreak havoc. Humanity has put evil on a throne, destroying the walls we built to contain our hearts; barely keeping us alive. We've given power to the things that only wish to hold us down. It's time to wreak havoc. I can't even remember a time when I could stand up for myself. I won't give in, I'll never surrender. No more fear, only fight. I'm a slave, I'm a slave to nothing. We're destroying your crown (get up, get up) and your walls are crashing down (get up, get up) Wreak havoc. Now is our time to rise above the fire you've cast down on us. I hear the words that you say, but at the end of the day you'll never see me surrender. A kingdom reclaimed, the spawn of sin is shamed; reaching from the dirt as darkness falls beneath the Earth. Devouring souls of the ones who chose to stay behind; thrown into eternal prison. I'm the one who's still alive. Hell awaits the king of lies. The perverse will fall, the beast will burn alive. King of lies. I HOPE YOU ROT. We're destroying your crown (get up, get up) and your walls are crashing down (get up, get up) Im a slave , I'm a slave to nothing.
