The line he just read doesn’t mean the dogs take on their mothers’ characteristics. It simply means that whatever genetic information is found in the mitochondria comes from the mother because the paternal mitochondrial DNA is lost during the fertilization process. The majority of genetic information is found in the nucleus of each cell and that contains DNA from both mother and father.
