Fitment issues with the flip front end? 😐

The fabrication for the flip front end isn't over... we need to put it back on and continue fabricating the fender caps. We're worried that we're going to run into fitment issues due to all the welding that was done while it was off the car 😐

Chad, when you welded the two pieces on the fender to but together when you close the hood, you could add two guide pins so when you close the hood, the pins would go into the holes in the fender and line itself up. It would not only line it up, it would hold it in place. Just a thought. - John

A friend who’s an excellent painter (landscapes) is often asked the same question: “ how long did it take you to paint that? His honest answer is “don’t really know...maybe three hours” The questioner starts to calculate the hourly rate - when he adds “plus forty years to Learn how!”

I love the flip front end and it looks great.....a little tricky to get things square but so much worth the extra effort to get that look. Nate is a great asset and luxury to have in your shop. He's very well rounded in automotive knowledge and very practical in his work. Great job handling the camera Jolene.

Well done Chad, Jolene and Nate, progress is being made on both projects. The hood flip on the 1940 Ford Coupe with hood aligning to the body looks great . Nate is a mechanical wizard in making strides in wiring up the starter switch , headlights , gas gauge and oil , pressure , voltage gauges and etc. Not everybody has the aptitude to totally rewire a 1936 Hudson Terra Plane.

Why didnt you get the shape before spot welding it together? You would have got the shape much easier and closer than guessing by slipping the paper between the divided fender. And the bottom of the cut piece of metal should mirror the top curve. You make things more difficult than need be. Just my observation.

I made a suggestion earlier in the videos about possibly adding a slide feature to the flip hinge, not sure if you saw it.... this waould allow you to slide it forward say 4" and then flip it.... this would allow you to get the exact gap between the fenders/firewall etc and then slide into locking pins to hold it all perfect...... again just a suggestion you may want to consider

Those stretchy rubber straps that they use on semi’s to hold the doghouse on, and I think some jeeps use them as well might be in your favor out on the fender itself. If you found some small ones that wouldn’t look too bad and would give it a little rigidity and cushion at the same time. I sure like the way the car is coming along it’s going to make one hell of a ride when it’s all said and done👍

I just had a thought… If a person straightened out a coat hanger and then took their thumbs and tweaked it little by little until it matched the curvature of the seam in the fender pieces you could transfer it over to the paper or skip the paper all together and use a coat hanger as your ‘template’, so to speak

Back when you made the cuts to separate the hoods from the fenders, i was wondering if a thin strip taked on each side on the outside, might maintain some rigidity and integrety to keep thm from flexing once you seperated them. Im thinking now with what you're dealing with, it may have been a good idea.

I felt kind of sad for the family or owner of the auctioned off stuff in Yesterdays video. Someday that will be me having my stuff gotten rid of though I don’t have anything super worthy of commanding big money mainly just old antique engines from yard machinery and a bunch of antique toys. And my homemade motorbikes. People will say once you’re gone it doesn’t matter what happens to your stuff, but if you leave a spouse behind, it does matter because of the monetary side of things.
