Hi... Good job installing your fish TV lol... I installed one on my pond build best thing I've ever done.. Great video, I'm putting a window in my block pond with liner. Very few videos out there on how to do it with liner. Its a frightening thought putting a window in but ill give it a go 😀
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers for watching Neil, I was exactly the same and put it off for two years. If you prep first and double check everything it should go easy. I was terrified and there was no need. I spoke with others who had just done theirs and listened to what they would have done different or what issues they had and made sure I didn't do what they did. The best tip was put plenty of sealant on but in the end I spent longer wiping it off and cleaning it up than actually fitting it. 6 hours prep. 30 minutes to seal and fit. 2 hours smoothing off. Take your time and get someone to help you lift.
@neillewis823 жыл бұрын
@@AKoiEnthusiast how did you make the frame to sit the window in? The insulation I'm going to use isn't as thick as the window and don't really want to have to rebate the block work.
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
@@neillewis82 I cut some wood down to 25mm thick and screwed it to the blockwork but this was because my Glass and Insulation were both 25mm too. The other way you could do it is to use a stone saw/Angle Grinder or similar with a Masonry blade and cut a recess in the blockwork for the glass to sit in. Check out Danny's Koi as he did something similar but with a wooden sleeper. It is the same theory. Unless you can double up the insulation on that wall to get to 25mm.

Loving the proportions of window to wall. Looks great 👍 What is the external length of pond holding window. Also, how many tubes of PU18 and Gold label did you use. Thanks
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Stephen, Without measuring the wall again I believe the external wall length is 3150mm - The Window showing is 1700mm. I think I used 4 full PU18 on the glass to the Blocks and 1 Tube to fill the spacing after. I only used 2 full Gold Label on the liner with another part one to over seal when it was tacky.
@just4koi1433 жыл бұрын
You made that look to easy 🤣 love that window👍🏻 skimmer in the filter house ?
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers for watching and yes the skimmer is on the back wall in to the Filter house but the wall inside the Filter house is Steel plated so you cannot see the skimmer or pipework. Only the Double Union Valve is noticeable in the filter house as it then goes underground to the back of the Filter House where it is then pumped up to the Filter and Bakki. It is access from the pond side.

Looks good but if ever there was a job that cried out for safety boots that was it. I didn’t bother to wear mine moving a 4.8 m length of 8” x 4” for an over the top frame to stand filters on, needless to say I dropped on my foot. Limping for a week! Carry on the good work 🙈

Kev mate that looks mint, once you've put the finishing touches round the window it will look like it's always been there, when you dropped the spirit level in I thought O crap you've only just repaired it lol, both you and your lad made it look easy, glad all went well with the fitting, will you be changing your intro pic now then or waiting till all finished, how long did you have to leave it after fitting liner to glass before filling, stay safe. Rob.
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Rob. I think all in all it took 4 hours to set up and transfer the Koi. 6 hours to cut the hole. 20 mins to fit the window with 1 hour to clean up around the seal. I left it 36 hours because it was raining the next day and cold. Then it took 20 minutes to seal the liner and trim it. I left it to fill then added another bead and away we go.
@robertnicholls94093 жыл бұрын
@@AKoiEnthusiast all that time soon adds up don't it, but I'm sure it's definitely worth all the hard work you put in, I had to grin when you was on about having to take your shirt off lol, when you originally measured up for your box weld liner did you add any extra or did you give exact dimensions. Brill job mate looks fab. Do you no if there is a minimum length of your corners before you start your window?
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andrew. I suppose there will be a rule of thumb for the strength of the corners etc rather than the length of brickwork before the window. Looking at photo's there are even ones with a single post and a window both sides. So I would possibly ask a Structural engineer for more advice
@2011Miya3 жыл бұрын
Love the pond outstanding what did you use for the frame and how did you attach it to the blocks
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Andy. I screwed some 3" x 1" wood on three sides as a frame and sat the 25mm glass on spacers on the frame. There was 25mm Kingspan insulation on the inside too so the frame was flush with the insulation. I sealed the glass to the inside of the blocks using PU18 sealant and then the next day I sealed the liner to the glass with Gold Label. leaving a perfectly flat seam around the window. No creases or ripples and no leaks. Check out the first part of the Video where I make the frame. kzbin.info/www/bejne/haLGoWSGqK93ntE

@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
@@2011Miya The Gaffer tape was used just to go over the small gap between the Insulation and the frame. Just so the pressure of the water didn't distort the liner over the frame.

What did you use for a frame for the window to sit on?
@AKoiEnthusiast3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Iain. I had a couple of lengths of 68mm x 38mm CLS Timber so I cut it down to 68mm x 25mm and screwed it to the inside wall. The Kingspan Insulation board was 25mm, the Glass was 25.5mm and the frame was 25mm so it kept it all smooth for the liner to fit over.
