Fitting a Reversing Camera to our Van! | Van Build Ep. 11

Not as difficult as you may think, just connecting some wires and running cables.
We decided that it would probably be a good idea to get a reversing camera in the new van, we don't have rear windows and well for the sake of £135 we just think it's probably money well spent.
The camera itself is built into the brake light so we just had to replace the old one with the new, no new holes in the van or anything like that just screw it in! (Well, bolt it in)
We decided to get a mirror mounted monitor, we don't have a mirror though lol but we have one on order, it was either that or a screw in dashboard one which i didn't fancy or wiring it into the main radio unit which again was just too complicated.
It's all up and running though so happy gravies, another job ticked off the list!

With the foam gasket. Don’t remove the middle until you’ve stuck it on. That way it won’t be so flimsy

I installed a reverse camera a while back but haven't got around to wiring it to the reverse light, just flick it on when needed. I recently got annoyed with that reverse beeper and disconnected it, never thought of using the wires for the camera. I know what I'm doing today now!

Haha yeah just connect the power cable from the camera to the reverse beeper power cable and job done! The only downside is that it only has power when in reverse so you can’t just turn it on but I don’t think it’s really an issue.

@Living The Tiny Life Yep worked a treat. Just got it wired up and neatly tucked away, only took me half hour or so. I only need it sometimes when I'm reversing, can't see any need to turn it on otherwise so no issue for me 👍

Anyone using those kind of screw terminals on a vehicle needs a slap. Just get some crimp connectors.

I used Wago clips for most of the build but at the time all I had was terminal blocks.

Never new,you can have a camara as part of the reverse light,must buy one,for my campervan.

Yeah, it was quite straight forward. Just connect into the reverse light/sensors and that’s the power to the camera and monitor. It really was quite easy 👍

The cover is great if you intend on storing it for a while, it did the job that was required of it, it fit the van really well and was useful to have the zips for the doors. It’s quite difficult to get on and off as you might imagine especially when you don’t have much patience :) The only reason we got it was because the van was parked directly under a tree so it would’ve got destroyed by bug poo without a cover, we don’t have the van under a tree anymore so we got rid of the cover as it’s massive and takes up a lot of room.

I did yeah I think it’s all connected to the same line as the sensors too. It was quite easy to be honest.

Yeah it was quite simple really, just swapping out the rear light and then running the cable to the front. It's a good example on why you do things like that in the early stages of the build lol
