Excellent advice! The point about the slow ignition due to the "fuse" effect of a touch hole filled with powder is not often understood, it is less of a problem now that vent plugs drilled from the chamber side are more often used. Many thanks for posting this. Chris B.

I second Dean’s comment about making more videos for this series! I’m embarrassed to admit that I bought my first flintlock rifle about 10 years ago and still have not shot it! Part of my apprehension is that I have no idea on how to properly clean it. I know I could just probably look up a video, but there seems to be far too many “experts” out there and I don’t want to damage my firearm by bad advice. Anyway, great tip for fitting the flint! Keep the great videos coming!

Took me a while to figure out what we call the torch hole is the vent. Got ya now Yes it makes a difference to keep the torch clean of power. Hang time is seems like an eternity. We use the pick in the hole. Looks like a tapered wire with a brade loop. All good stuff Keith. Thanks. Wish you could make a rendezvous. We are going to have a pig roast and shooting games. A shame we are a world apart..

Good day Timothy. Yes I carry a pricker on the strap of my shot pouch. We have Rendezvous over here too Timothy, but I rarely leave my forest home these days. Regards, Keith.

Not a bad video mate , great tips 👍. Why didn't you make part two ? That's loading and shooting the old girl . Then part 3 cleaning the girl after a hard weekend of shooting. A bloke by the name of Michael Roach made many flintlock rifles back in the 70s I was only a kid, but I loved watching him do it . As soon as I asked a question he would say "out boy's I'm busy" and that was that . Hillend in NSW Australia he and his family would go there every school holidays and shoot with the club. He made many beautiful old girls.
