Fitting a window in a Renault Master van.

We cut a big hole in our van! This video documents how we went about fitting a side sliding window in our Renault Master van. Spoiler... it was stressful at times!

A bit about us -
We are Edd and Cassie Nicholas we live in Bristol in the UK and own Interiors brand Dig Haüshizzle. We have been antique and vintage furniture dealers for the past ten years and this is our van we have had for the past four years to do this job. We are calling it a "partial" conversion as we need to be able to still transport lots of furniture in the van too, so everything needs to fold away and still leave a large open space.
We have been a couple for the past 15 years and have worked together for the last 8. As well as hunting for vintage and antiques stock around the country we also work together as interior designers. We have worked on both commercial and residential spaces from bars and cafes to youth centres and private residences. Cassie appeared on the First series of Interior Design Masters on the BBC and Netflix, an interior design competition where ten designers compete for a large scale commercial contract. Cassie went on to win the show and completed the commercial contract at The Dorsett Hotel in London in 2019.
We are a creative couple that love a hands on approach, open to making mistakes but learning as we go. In the world of interiors we work with a very slow grown approach and imagine this will go over to into our van build. We will be looking for the best ways to use things we already have, use reclaimed or recycled materials and trying to make sure the space is practical for us and our needs as well as adding a few extra design features to make it more personal.
We have previously renovated a listed Georgian flat and a 1920's terraced, so it only seems right to extend the DIY projects to the van. In 2005 we travelled in Europe in a motorhome for almost four months so we have had a touch of the van life quite a while ago. Admittedly it was not a conversion but we loved not having a day to day plan only a general idea of where we were heading and letting places engross us on the way. So we are hoping to get to do a little more of this again in the Renault Master.
We are both beginner surfers and Edd also Mountain bikes so we will be making the van work to also fit around these hobbies. We are hoping to create some ceiling storage for the boards.
Edd also paints and Cassie a photographer so generally we are always finding another project to be involved with. We hope these videos are useful for anyone else doing a van conversion especially on a budget. We started this conversion during the Covid 19 lockdown in the UK and really needed to keep the expenditure down as who know what the future holds. Our aim is to make this conversion work for us and spend around £1000. We want to keep it a as close as possible but I imagine will not be super strict if something will really make a difference. When we have finished we will share all our budgets and costings and how we manage to save a little bit too.

Wish I had watched this video about 3 hours earlier hahaha just fitted my window in my vauxhall movano. Definitely think templates should be supplied it would make things a lot more efficient. Great video guys. I'll definitely be following yous along. 👍

This was super helpful guys . My sliding door window has the little gap cut out but I haven’t opened the other one for the driver side to see if it does too ... will report back 🤟🏻

Did you manage to fit the trim afterwards? I've fitted rear windows on my Movano and struggled to get the widow to fit flush with the trim on. I'm hoping to fit the side window today. Wish me luck!! 😵
